3. Senate sims are a hoot.
I did a few for a while, and I know John. He'll run a good sim. If you want to learn more about the Senate and kick the shit out of some GOPers sims can be a lot of fun.

I made some good buddies in sims.

7. Thanks to those who helped out so far...
At least ten people have signed in from DU since I posted here and I want to thank you. Today you helped us reclaim our majority status in the Senate Sim which the GOP had stolen from us over the past week.

We still need more members so if you enjoy politics and raggin' on the GOP, come help fight the scourge. There's a step by step tutorial for getting signed in on the home page.

If you have any questions, feel free to IM me (AIM: cheechlane).

Thanks again.

9. Yes its a Simulation/Game
We simulate the real life US Senate. We have elections, voting, debate, and fighting between the Democrats and Republicans. Once you register and get signed in you automatically become a Senator in the game and can immediately start playing (submit legislation, debate, vote, i.e.).

We are currently holding our first roll call which will determine how many committee seats each party gets and who's eligible to vote in elections that start next week (not sure of the exact date off the top of my head).

10. I learned a lot about the Senate while simming.
I thought I understood the process of legislation fairly well, but I was amazed when I started simming and realized how much of a bill's success or failure is based on the strategy of presenting the bill. I also was amazed at how partisan it all becomes-even down to resolutions of support for stuff that you'd THINK was a no-brainer.

Something else about simming that is present, is the whole SCOTUS thing. If you want to be on the Supreme Court you can work to get there, and you actually hear sim based cases.

It can be kind of exciting (I know--I'm gonna sound like a horrible geek here) at times. When I was serving as the President I recess appointed several Supreme Court Justices. THAT was a huge undertaking--and one that taught me a LOT about how the judicial appointment process works. John--you were not a recess appointment, but I think you served with them... How did you see that whole process?

If you haven't done it, give it a try. It isn't for everybody, but it can be a lot of fun.

14. I've been around the block
I've been around the block, have been involved in political sims since 2000. Its rather addictive and enjoyable. I've met lots of friends while doing it. Its changed my political beliefs, I went from a Republican (moderate) to Democrat (thanks a lot to Laura and other awesome Democrats).

I've served in just about every official capacity from Committee Chair to Party Whip, and even the position of President. As Laura said (who is also a member of the President's Club) the Supreme Court process is interesting and grueling. It was definately more work for me to become an Associate Justice on SCOTUS than run for President. If you think you know your stuff, someone will throw you a curveball.

16. nice job!
I've been poking around in the sim tonight, and the amount of work and organization that's been put into this is really impressive. It'll take me a bit to get up to speed on everything, but so far it looks fascinating.

Definitely recommend, and a kick for the night crew.

17. Thanks
There is a lot of hard work that goes into the simulation, both from those that run it and those that lead it (President, Justices, Leaders, Senators).

If you enjoy politics, debating and meeting new people US Senate Sim is perfect. It's not only a game/simulation, its a community of diverse political beliefs and you never know what to expect, especially from those damn republicans.

19. I always kind of enjoyed educating people too.
Don't laugh, but I found it to be a lot of fun to go in there and educate people about some of the stuff that goes under the radar with the media. I'll grant you, it pissed off some folks to point out that the "Asswipe in the Whitehouse" (my personal choice of terms for the fearless leader we have now) did something that was wrong or stupid (Or LIED) but I also felt like they needed to know it.

I also felt like it was worth it to put a Dem perspective out there for people to see. John--how much did I talk to you about policy? I remember spending a lot of time discussing everything from foreign policy to abortion with you, and you finally realized I might be liberal, but I'm not some foaming at the mouth wingnut. I finally got the the point with you that I realized you had your views for a reason--and some of them were deeply held.

Simming has a real reward if you have the time and energy to do it.

24. check around in the forums...
I did that yesterday, and kind of got a basic idea of how the thing flows (although I'm definitely still at the novice stage). The Democratic War Room is a good place to poke around at first.

26. Just sent out an email
If you are having trouble with the process of getting properly signed in, check your email if you have registered for an account. I just sent out a email to all registered members that should help you get settled in and ready for elections.

Once you complete those steps, check out K Street Cafe, Democratic Party HQ (including the War Room) and the Senate Floor. You can also submit legislation in the Calendar of Business and co-sponsor what you like.

Elections start May 17th (Tuesday). As I said before if you got questions feel free to IM me (AIM: cheechlane). I'll be glad to help answer any questions you may have.
