Do we deserve the government we have?
When the Ukrainians had a flawed election, the people took to the streets en mase to shut down the government until their demands for a free and fair election were met.

Here there were many people with suspicions, but the vast majority of us twiddled our thumbs and said "C'est la vie." If people here gave a shit, we would have done the same thing, but we did not. Our complacency is much of the reason for this mess.....

......and I will confess....I was not out protesting and trying to recruit others to do it en masse either.....perhaps I deserve this as much as everyone else......I was willing to help with the number crunching for proving things statistically. Someone on DU contacted me about this, but never followed up - even after I reminded them....oh well....I would have totally helped there too.

4. Yes...
...we always get the government we deserve. We're just not as desparate as the Ukrainians, and I hope we never will have to be.

But I fear that is a forlorn hope.

2. Yes. We should have overthrown it long ago had we any balls.
It is an illegal putsch Administration that has no legitimacy and which ought to be ousted in favor of the actual winners of the 2004 election.

6. We deserve to have this? Yes, we do.
Yeah, different country, different conditions. But even in countries that have a standard of living similar to our own, the citizenry has a much greater involvement with how they are governed.

We are governed by our TV's more than anything.

And yeah, collectively, we do deserve it. But none on this website individually do.

7. NO!! WE GOT ROBBED! Again!

This is a lot like telling a rape victim that she deserved it
because she should have been able to fight off her attacker.

12. A rape victim cannot usually fight off their attacker,
but we could have done more to deny the legitimacy of b*sh's second term.

By not doing what the Ukrainians did, we essentially validated the legitimacy of b*sh's presidency. If people were angrier about what happened, circumstances would probably be different - not necessarily better, but different (eg I think we could all imagine b*sh imposing martial law if we tried too hard to close down the federal government.

8. Ain't NOBODY Deserves the government We've Got!
hell, fuckin' NO!

If the people were properly served by a functioning Free Press instead of the bought-and-paid for Corporate Media we're currently Stuck with, the bastards would never have been voted in, in the first place!

9. I think we deserve better. I think the whole world deserves better.
I think that there are plenty of people doing everything within their power to expose the frauds in office. I think we will prevail.

That's what I think.

10. The government of we the people is no longer a representative
government. It is selected by corporations to do their bidding while posing as a government of we the people and that's fraud. What part of that did I have anything to do with? Not a goddamn thing, but I will take part in setting it straight because that is my responsibility. The past only keeps us delaying our responsibility, we all have fear of being alone in our views, but that is no reason to accept any shred of blame about the greed of others. Who the fuck rationalizes the Bush family crimes as being a collective we the people fault.

I won't fault the rest of my country with this mess but I expect once my country figures it out, to get off their ass's and do something about it.

14. you proved my point
"I won't fault the rest of my country with this mess but I expect once my country figures it out, to get off their ass's and do something about it."

Except for the fact that you should fault the rest of the country (without insulting them) and teach them to do better constructively. The bottom line is that people ARE sitting on their asses as you have said - and hence collectively, we may deserve this crap....The Ukrainians did not sit on their asses and they got what they wanted ande, more importantly, deserved.

Though as another poster said, the vast majority here atr DU do not deserve this....although I am willing to shoulder some blame since I did not get active in the street about the fraud, but simply discussed it politely with others on the net....that sort of thing will not make the chimp's presidency illegitimate...it takes more action than that.

19. But the Ukrainian media
would have certainly supported its outgoing prime minister....that did not prevent the mass mobilization that occurred there.

We are too spoiled collectively as a nation to give a shit sometimes.

15. No, we don't,
but tragically, it is what we got. Another thought I had about this is that not only did WE end up with this lousy excuse for a government, but because of our standing in the world, EVERYBODY got it as well.

Nothing will ever convince me that we lost last November. I feel it in my very bones that it was stolen and it is a crime not only against decent, patriotic Americans, but in fact, the entire planet.

17. I am not debating that a crime most likely occurred...
What did you do about it when the overwhelming stack of evidence for a crime came in????

I did very little but discuss it here adn a few other message boards which does not really spread the word or anger others who did not know they were robbed...and I am mad at myself now.

20. It would be easier to stand up and fight as one...
if the CCM (Corporate Controlled Media, not the MSM) would actually REPORT once and awhile. If the public had to hear everyday about the discrepancies in the 2004 votes, if people had to see footage of US soldiers and Iraqi civilians DYING everyday, if people heard about the new bankruptcy law f**king us as they turn around and let United basically ignore theirs, if people heard about "Memogate" and could read/see the evidence with their own eyes, if people could.... I could go on and on. The point, is that we're only half at fault, the other half belongs to those on the sidelines cheering on our government and distributing propaganda for them, aka the CCM. God bless America!
