1. God, it has to be Scalia |

Not just conservative to the core, but arrogant to boot. Thomas is just his lapdog.

5. He's bad but I think Rehnquist is worse. |

Scalia broadcasts his bizarre beliefs but Rehnquist strikes me as thoroughly amoral.

At least Scalia has some definitive principles (as vile as they are). Thomas is nothing more than Scalia's lackey on the Court.

The fact that he's a rubber stamp for Scalia made him my choice.

Just as conservative as Bork... just not as open at the time. Talk about a cyanide bullet.

8. Scalia is a lunatic. My ten-year old would make a better Justice. |

He and Thomas have made the Supreme Court a joke. They will be remembered as dark stains on the American Soul.

12. Clarence Thomas. Where is he? |
|
There was a vote 8 to 1, I can't remember precisely what it was, but it was something to do with an appeal, maybe of a death sentence, maybe about executing minors. Sorry, I can't remember.
But 8 to 1? He's way way out there.

15. Scalia, but Thomas is not far behind |
|
It's hard to hold Renquist's conservatism against him, partly because guys his age usually are conservative and because he's been so sick I have sympathy for him on a human suffering level.
Scalia is more radical in his conservatism than Renquist is. Thomas follows Scalia's lead usually, except in some of his dumber-assed rulings, like the one where he was the only justice to rule in favor of corrections' officers having the right to beat inmates, even without provocation/or in self defense.

17. Thomas is lazy and partisan and vindictive. |
|
That tends to attract my dislike. In fact, that makes him sound like G.W. Bush, although Thomas obviously has intellectual powers far superior to Smirkus Maximus. It's just that now that Thomas has a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court, we will catch him seeking revenge on his enemies, but not actually engaging intellectually in deliberations. Just shameless.
I realize Scalia is really the one we have to worry about in terms of machinations and the like, but Thomas was and is an appalling choice for a seat on the Supreme Court.
