Tonight's Law and Order (teeny spoiler) |
|
The case was of a guy who committed a vicious hate crime whose lawyer argues that his conversion to Christianity within weeks of the killing and his exemplary life for the 9 years it took to catch him, entitles him to be allowed to go free. I must admit, that I don't get this notion. One element of Christianity is redemption which only occurs when one takes responsibility for his or her sins.
It was an interesting, if scary, commentary on the times we live in. I won't go further since that would spoil it but this notion was taken more seriously than I would have thought.

5. It was very frightening! |

The fact that the judge was asked to recuse himself because of his membership in the ACLU, among others. I can really see this happening. Yet, we can't get a SC justice to recuse himself after a hunting trip with a "defendant."

just HOW ripped from the headlines and secret thoughts this episode was. The references to Terry Schiavo and all!
I have to give kudos to their writers. They took on a touchy subject and covered it splendidly. The social comment by the defense attorney was telling as well. Just proves that not all activists are on the left side, nor all those willing to exploit the "fristians" are on the right.
