Party or his President, do you?

Actually, although I never agree with Lugar, he's not on my list of worst Pubs.

43. This has killed any respect I had for Lugar.
Some months back I recall hearing that the White House PUNISHED Lugar for not toeing their particular line on some matter. I forget what it was. But the sheer hubris and vindictiveness of this administration boggles the mind, and the fact that they went after a respected committee chairman is particularly disgusting.

But instead of showing backbone and impartiality -- hell, COMPETENCE -- Lugar joins in the "best man for the job" chorus being sung by Smirkus Maximus and his followers. Surely he must have some sense of the danger the country and the world are in due to the shortsighted, spendthrift, incompetent Bush administration. I guess party comes first, and to hell with human lives.

12. Dodd recommends that it end here
if the committee can't recommend Bolton, let's end it here rather than take it to the floor for a long debate, let's invoite the president to send us a new nominee, there are LOTS of good people who could do the job.

29. Most serious issue - Bolton's credibility before the committee
What he said about Westerman WAS NOT true, he wanted him removed and that's not what he told the committee. The issue went on for months and that's not what he told the committee.

also not candid about another issue - steps to remove NIO for 4 months, he told the committee he had 1 conversations 1 time with 1 person.

Told Committee Amb. Hubbard approved his speechh - not true

Will he be believable at the UN? You don't begin by not being candid with the committee when under oath.

36. Kerry was very good. Said a full floor vote would not be good for Bolton
that the full senate debate over him would not get any better for Bolton. I took that as a caution to the other side, i.e. "Do you really want to split this wide open, on the public record?"

He also asked if it is okay to flat out lie to a congressional committee?

These republicans have absolutely NO INTEGRITY WHATSOEVER.

We all knew this of course, but it is still somewhat of a shock to see actual human beings parade their serious character deficits on national TV. I still am amazed that any of them can sleep at night.

Guess that abundance of conscience is what makes me their opposite.

39. That Would Be A Good Thing
""Kerry, "a debate on the floor will not improve Boltons standings""

That would be good, not bad! Let Bolton's standings fall! Let the debate proceed and Senators vote on this nomination.

Perhaps some are worried that some Democratic Senators will vote for Bolton. Can Senators filibuster against the nomination?

saying that the process is wrong for examining all the information that's come forward

Says that all the charges are false, Bolton is a strong leader, cites Bolton supporters, Townsel charges false

Repeats Allen's talking point - "it's about UN reform"

Says Jean Kirkpatrick supports John Bolton, says she was UN ambassador before all the scandals and UN corruption was exposed (I guess implying that what she said before doesn't count now)

now he's claiming he's doing what's right for the country...not his party.

66. So, Lamar Alexander thinks that harassment is being 'rude'...
That's precious...

I think his viewpoint on 'how he was rude' to his staff under him is a prime example of how Repugnicans view their position in business and govt. People under you are to be used and abused, and the supervisor/manager has every right to harass and fire or transfer those people, they afterall, are 'underlings', and are only there to support the important people: the managers & supervisors...

Some redneck asshole will kill him before then -- he's too good and too black for the fearful and the hate-filled to tolerate.

When I saw him here in Vegas last October, Harry Reid was able to walk around and shake hands; Barak Obama, except for when he was actually giving his speech, was covered in big, bullet-proof vest wearing bodyguards. It was really kind of sad...
