Bolton reported out of committee without a recommendation |
|
Pary-line vote, 10-8
Now the nomination goes to the full senate for debate and a vote

1. The important part is "without recomendation" |
|
That's tepid endorsement (if you can even call it that). Stay tuned for the Senate floor fight ...

They'll never get 6 GOP to flip on the floor.
The guy might as well start picking out window treatments for his UN office. The craven GOP middle had a chance to stop this catastrophe in committee, and instead chose the most cowardly way to handle it, knowing that the floor vote means he is in, period.
A disgraceful episode in American history.

8. As angry as I am, maybe this allows Voinovich to win both ways |
|
He and others who have reservations can say that they let him out of committee (IdiotBoy pleased), but then they have enough cover to vote against him on the Senate floor (safety in numbers -- nobody gets whipped by KKKarl).
Personally, I've enjoyed the exchanges in committee and can't wait to see what happens when the discussion "goes wide" in the full Senate. (Although I have to admit, the prospect of Orrin Hatch and Rick Sanscrotum spouting off on Bolton's merits isn't apetizing.)

9. I think he's been pretty clear that he'll vote no when the senate votes |
|
He very clearly said that he thought Bolton was not the right person for the job. His vote today was because he wasn't willing to take all the responsibility on himself today for bringing down the nomination. It will be a different matter when all the senators are voting. Chaffe and Hagel might vote against at that time, too.

10. The other thing that could happen |
|
is that the Dems could filibuster the nomination when it comes to the full senate.
