32. Sickening Edifying Of Clark's Quote |
|
Edited on Thu Sep-18-03 11:09 PM by cryingshame
Clark went on to say "I was against the war as it emerged because there was no reason to start it when we did. We could have waited."
There was NO WAY anyone could have known whether the UN weapons inspectors would have come up empty handed without the process being finished.
By the way, this is a hypothetical scenario... Clark didn't HAVE to vote and neither did Dean so there is no way of knowing whether either of these men would have supported the resolution.
That Dean supporters give him credit for words uttered with no action to back them up is ridiculous considering he is as much as a politician (and a moderate DLC one at that) as any of the other Dem candidates.

Lieberman is on first name terms with Bush and Cheney and was the number one supporter of the administration's policies. What makes Clark different from Lieberman now that he has supported the invasion?

It seems that his concerns about it pre-war were primarioly about planning, troop strength, etc. FAIR Media Advisory http://www.fair.org/press-releases/clark-antiwar.htmlFAIR and Nation articles -- not Anti-War http://www.truthout.org/docs_03/091803A.shtmlAnd tonight we hear the Clark Probably would have voted for the Iraq War Resolution, and that his thinking is very much like Lieberman's and Kerry's on the war http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A32450-2003Sep18.htmlNope, not exactly what a lot of DUers thought he was. Edit: and here are Clark's OWN words http://www.commondreams.org/views03/0917-14.htmEloriel

36. I got the same song, different lyrics |
|
I think I had too many valid points to make
Who would be most efficient at reducing the pork fat in the defense budget and still maintain an effective and capable modern military? The privledged chickenhawks have treated the defense budget as their own private country club ATM. Not very efficient. Should we give the defense budget over to a total pacifist with no military experience in the middle of a military crisis, no matter whose making it was? We could well end up with a military not capable.
What about the fact that Clark supports alternative energy development including wind, solar, hydrogen cell technology and others so that we don't even have to worry about oil in the first place?
I also said that I first became interested in Clark because of his pointed criticism of the Bush war and it's probable aftermath, so therefore I had to say our perceptions were very different.
I waited for some time and then was told my comments could not be fit in the remaining time. This tells me he does what all radio entertainers do - and they are all entertainers by the way - he screens his calls to avoid real challenges and enforce his own view.

how do YOU reconcile the horrors we've wrought on the world in the last 50 years
Really! Where are you a liberal who supports our military now? Are we bent on a conquest of the planet? Is that what we're out to do? Is that what Clark (kerry, Lieberman, Bush, Bilderberger) expect? Neoliberal restructuring of the global marketplace?
Is it ok to kill to achieve those ends when we may reach those goals through actual export of our liberal ideals?

39. With all due respect Ter, there are people from whom |
|
I am pleased to take constructive critisism. They are people who have a consistent and demonstrated ability engage in dialoge based in reason, logic and fact. I have not witnessed that from you yet, but perhaps we've not yet had the chance to talk about issues we agree on. Until then I cannot take your premise that "X" is "wrong with me".
I posted what I planned to speak about on the show. You posted a pedantic and slightly incoherent rant having nothing at all to do with my post.
how do YOU reconcile the horrors we've wrought on the world in the last 50 years
That's a long ass story isn't it. I am not going to launch into 50 years of American history with you, I will say this. We have probably done as much good in the world as bad, at least in the short term for the humans (not just ours). The environment is of course another story. Countries are very much like people and they are all full of good and bad. I think Depp's "Big dumb puppy" comment was pretty damn close to being on mark. Hopefully we work on the bad and keep going, keep evolving. What train of logic says I should fear a general to take us in the wrong direction who has said "The greatest purpose of the military is not to wage war - but to prevent war" as opposed to a chickenhawk on the stump who says "bring it on!" I agree the defense budget has a good deal of fat in it but I do not agree with uninformed potentially weakening blind slash tactics either.
Really! Where are you a liberal who supports our military now?
I think you meant were? That's what I'm going on anyway. I'm a liberal nutjob freak in my neighborhood and my community. I have always supported our military, my father lost pieces of his mind and body in WWII, many of our family have served. I do not equate liberal with weakness.
Are we bent on a conquest of the planet?
Who is we?
Is that what Clark (kerry, Lieberman, Bush, Bilderberger) expect? Tough to answer that one since I do not know who "we" is.
Is it ok to kill to achieve those ends when we may reach those goals through actual export of our liberal ideals?
I hope someday you will take the time to open up long enough to really understand that Wesley Clark would prefer to change the world for the better through POSITIVE incentives, in trade and in policy. It wasn't the stars that got me Ter, it was the Rhodes scholar masters in philosophy.
