Do you know what your children are reading?
I'm a substitute teacher for an 8th grade science class in suburban New Jersey (read, affluent community). I look at the Scholastic Science World magazine for the kids. On page 2, is a full page ad for the U.S. Army. And of course, it looks like a program like Outward Bound, full of adventure and fun.

8th grade!!! Not even high school!!

Nothing is safe even in the public schools.

3. Bring in "Addicted to War" next time you substitute :)
That was a great introduction to politics when my son was in 7th or 8th grade. It's written in a kid friendly format. He even got a free t-shirt from a vendor when he was painting a huge poster of the US handing stockpiles of Weapons to Saddam from the book during one of the protests in San Francisco right before the war started.

He has since moved on to Michael Moore's books and Al Franken's books.

says that "smoking marijuana can make you unable to have children".

Oddly enough, this is probably the ONLY (albeit inadvertent)reference to any form of birth-control type info they'll get.

Only in Texas.
