1. how about if we riot in the streets?
How about if we finally get really angry? What if the people took back this country? I understand your upset, I feel it too.

3. Nothing so far has caused us to get "really angry"
I don't think that will. 99% of Americans don't even know or care what a filibuster is. :(

2. look at the bright side....
....I'm all for the Dems fighting to save the filibuster....but if we lose, Reid will make the Senate live by its own procedural rules....and I'm truly convinced that if we are ever to get a universal healthcare bill through a Democratic Congress to Democratic President again, 50 votes will be alot easier to achieve than 60....that's after we change the filibuster just a little bit more....

5. Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? HELL NO!!!
It's not over until WE decide it is!

OK, before you start crying, you need to listen to this remarkable speech by a great Patriot. I think he was one of our Founding Fathers, or a war president or something:

http://161.58.5.90/animal/germans.wav

Seriously, if they use the nuklear option, we have them right where we want them. They will install a few judges, but they will also accomplish two very significant things: they will simultaneously horrify and scare the American public one year before elections, and also undermine the checks and balances provided by the judiciary and enhance the power of the other two branches.

Think about that: they will get to install their judges, but their actions will weaken the Judiciary and embolden the power of the executive and legislative, which will come up for election shortly.

Just as Americans are grasping the horror of the power grab, it will be time to vote...the pendulum will swing strongly in favor of the Democrats...who will sweep into the (now much more powerful than ever before) legislature in 2006. If we can take the White House in 2008, we will have control of the two branches of government which have not been neutered, the Republicans will be a minority party, and they will not even have recourse to the filibuster, and they will have no one to blame (not even Clinton) but themselves!

The Democrats will come out looking great - they will have restored order to the Republic - while the Republicans will come out looking like angry defeated fascists who are crying for the very things they themselves destroyed.

When the Repubs and the masses of the Rabid Religious Reich look to the Judiciary to stop the flood of progressive reforms being pushed thru by the Democrats...they will perceive the bitter irony that they have shot themselves in the foot with all their attacks on the Judiciary and all their rabid railing against Judges.

12. I disagree with almost everything.
This country had a "New Pearl Harbor." It only codified the "New World Order's" control over this country.

This country didn't recognize or respond to 2 stolen elections, being led into a war based on proven lies, or the mass stealing of the US Treasury, or by mass torture in Our Name.

Now, you're suggesting an obscure Senate procedure, known by few, will "have them right where we want them"? Yeah, sure.

I never have subscribed to the "Pendulum Theory." Just exactly where was that Pendulum in Nazi Germany? It took a World War to swing THAT clock.

When the courts are further stacked by rabid theocratic ideologues by the current Reich, there will be no judicial reprieve.

Furthermore, no Democrat will ever win much of anything while the voting procedures remain as they are. "They" control the counting of the votes. "They" control them now and they won't give up that control. Perhaps you might suggest how that will happen?

Sorry to be so grouchy, but thems the facts.

7. “Heads Republicans Win, Tails Democrats Lose”.
I agree....BUT this is something we CAN'T change, I don't care if we get the White House for the next 50 years. Our Democratic leadership (with few exceptions) SUCKS....BUT I will take them over the thugs any day.

10. That Podvin piece "In the Name of the Lord" is delightful
destined to be an all time favorite!

IN THE NAME OF THE LORD
http://makethemaccountable.com/podvin/more/050417_InTheNameOfTheLord.htm

excerpt:

American fundamentalists have repudiated the Jesus of the bible who blathered on endlessly about peace and love and all that other leftist crapola. Their savior is a militaristic elitist smitten with the rich and disdainful of the poor, a martinet determined to cleanse subversive individuality from humankind. Although they do not realize it, the icon that holy rollers are actually worshipping is Generalissimo Francisco Franco.

Yet Franco really is still dead, and if it turns out that Christ is the resurrected Son of God the reactionary religionists will ultimately be serving (extremely) hard time for blasphemy. Invoking the Lord’s name, the Religious Right is conducting a merciless terrorist campaign that has effectively prohibited abortion in most of America. Having achieved excellent results by murdering disobedient doctors, the sanctimonious vigilantes are now turning their deadly gaze towards disobedient jurists.

The zealots have already terrorized scientists engaged in stem cell research, pharmacists who sell contraceptives, educators who teach Evolution, museum owners who display controversial art, authors who write irreverent prose, and documentary filmmakers who prioritize facts over superstition. Some Americans who fall into disfavor with the fundamentalists find their home addresses posted on the Internet, while less fortunate dissidents have bounties placed on their heads.

The vicious offensive launched against law-abiding citizens is fascism dressed as fundamentalist religion, although a costume change is hardly required for they are one and the same. Religious zealotry has always been the blood enemy of rational thought. Once the devout conclude that they have received marching orders from the Almighty, what invariably follows are search and destroy missions designed to eradicate the satanic abominations of logic and reason.

17. I have the same fear
If the filibuster rule is overturn it may be over. The neo-cons will be able to do anything they want to.

Oh the other hand, I'm not sure the Republicans have the votes to overturn the rule, so there is still hope.
