Mayor, others blame BUSH for Portsmouth Navy Yard closing
Edited on Sat May-14-05 05:22 AM by Bluebear
....(Mayor Evelyn) Sirrell blames President Bush for the shipyard being on the list. "Where is he? It’s bad. He hasn’t been involved, but (Donald) Rumsfeld has. Where are they going? You don’t take all our military bases away,” she said. "What went wrong? That’s hard to say. I don’t know Rumsfeld’s mind — boy, he’s not watching out for the people."....

(Kittery, Maine town manager Joe) Carter also laid blame at Bush’s feet. "I blame President Bush for this incredible way he’s managing the Department of Defense — in putting the country at risk by doing this stuff. It’s just not very wise and the rationale has been explained to the public. I think he has just not been paying attention to what is happening here in the country and how this sort of base closure and realignment process is going to be disruptive in a time of war,” he said.

"It’s very disappointing to hear that we are on the list. I liken it to a mushroom cloud over the Seacoast region at this point," said Kittery Vice Chairman Rich Balano. “The impact if we do stay on the list in September could be huge for the region. The negative impact is going to be incredible.

1. Well, that backfired. The plan was Portsmith was supposed to ignore
* and Rumsfeld and go after its Senator and local congressional representative to KEEP IT OPENED. But Portsmith is wise enough to know the emphaisis remains on */Rumsfeld for putting its name on the list to begin with.

3. This will all disappear down the memory hole and ** will be forgotten
as the culprit in this economic sabotage. They want these states to do poorly to influence future elections.

BushCo won't be remembered as the reason for the economic downturn in these communities when the final votes are cast.

Once these people pay higher taxes, run out of unemployment, etc. they will be looking at their mayors and governors.

2. bush can't manage....
tyeing his own shoes in the morning. He "delegates" which means he's a lazy shit and lets his toadies do all the work. He's never "in the loop", he lets the adults handle that "hard work".

Rumsfeld is an idiot. His vision of a "leaner, meaner" armed forces is as ridiculous as his "plan" for invading and securing Iraq. There wasn't any. He's destroying our national defense capabilities because no one will stand up to him and say, NO! That should be bush's job, but he's too busy riding his new tricycle.

6. Dancin' with the Devil
I never heard much indignation about the billions we've been pouring down the rathole in Iraq. The great majority of people never seemed to be upset that the justifications for going into Iraq didn't added up. They didn't seem all that upset that Halliburton got an open-ended, no-bid contract in Iraq and that the VP couldn't BE more connected to that company.

Now, when elections are a long way off, the political-powers-that-be decide to make some attempt to SAVE billions of dollars, and where do they decide to do it? By announcing the closure of bases across the country. NOW that the billions will be leaving local economies NOW we're worried about the money. Been dancin' with the Devil and now we're gettin' burned.

By the way, I believe the US spends way more than any other government on the planet for military spending. We probably don't need all the bases we have. The threat is not the Soviet military anymore. It's some guy driving a van into Times Square with a crude atomic bomb inside or that same bomb in a shipping container at the Port Authority. The military base in your area isn't going to be much use in that struggle.
