In my world, I think all campaign contributions should go into one "pot" and then be distributed equally among the candidates. Any corporate donation would be split 50/50 with half going into this general fund, and the other 50% being put into a fund for the inaugeral ball to be used for the candidate that wins the election. No other monies could be used for campaigning or inaugeral costs--and if someone breaks the rules, they are OUT. No do-overs.
ANY political ad would have to feature the candidate himself. He would have to say his message--not have a bunch of swifties speaking for him.
At each debate, it would be open. No pre-set rules. Each candidate would be searched as if they were going through the airport for any listening devices. If they were found--that candidate would be exposed and the debate would still go on. Shame on the candidate who was not prepared.
On election day, the candidate would NOT be allowed near any of the polling areas. They would be required to cast an early ballot.
The news channels would be limited to what they could report about the candidate. Any negative reports uncovered from the other side would require each candidate to come forward face to face and accuse each other of wrongdoings before it could be reported on. This would eliminate the henchman.
Families would be off limits.

1. Some real face-to-face debates might be nice, too. |
