CANNES, France (Reuters) -- A British documentary arguing U.S. neo-conservatives have exaggerated the terror threat is set to rock the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday, the way "Fahrenheit 9/11" stirred emotions here a year ago.

"The Power of Nightmares" re-injected politics into the festival that seemed eager to steer clear of controversy this year after American Michael Moore won top honors in 2004 for his film deriding President George W. Bush's response to terror.

At a screening late on Friday ahead of its gala on Saturday, "The Power of Nightmares" by filmmaker and senior BBC producer Adam Curtis kept an audience of journalists and film buyers glued to their seats and taking notes for a full 2-1/2 hours.

The film, a non-competition entry, argues that the fear of terrorism has come to pervade politics in the United States and Britain even though much of that angst is based on carefully nurtured illusions.

1. "based on carefully nurtured illusions."

Illusions? You mean they don't believe in the one-legged dead man that can roll out of speeding vehicles or the dialysis requiring giant A-rab who would just as soon kill us all SLOWLY?

I didn't buy all that duct tape and plastic for nothing, you know...

Why, just thinking about it makes me quiver in fear...

And that big meany Hugo Chavez who says the NASTIEST things about our great leader, who cares if most of the time they're true...

I guess it figures this movie is being shown in FRANCE...

2. I was just ready to post this
The story just about says it all doesn't it? When are voters going to quit allowing these people in power?

11. That's the question
I've seen a bit of that documentary and it's really good. Definietly a must-see. I'll have to watch all of it sometime. It basically tells how terrorist groups that Bush pumps up as danger really aren't anything to be afraid of.

4. Tell me - is it evil to email these articles to yourself to get them
on the "most popular" list? Because I do that if I think it's an important article. I add some people who might be interested, but I include myself in the To: list.

Yahoo lets you rate them, but CNN and MSNBC doesn't. I always feel like I'm cheating when I do that.

12. Lets hope momentum builds in Cannes
and someone is presuaded to provide the backing to release it as a film/dvd.

I don't think there is a dvd yet- I just checked the bbc shop.

7. Q: When was the last terror alert?
A: Before the election SIX MONTHS AGO.

Draw your own conclusions.

(John Stewart segued nicely into this little "coincidence" when he had Tom Ridge on the show.)
