So What's It Going to Be Then? |
|
Where can we go to, Well we have narrowed it down to three possible candidates and since New Zealand wants no part of aging Americans, here's my short list in order of attraction to us:
Aruba Fiji Costa Rica
Most likely list to end up in:
Costa Rica Aruba Fiji
How bout' the rest of you? Staying here to retire in this new third world country or jumping ship for a real one?

I have worked too damned hard all by myself to set up my farm and run it. Besides, this is my country too and I am not leaving it to the likes of these people.
No hard feelings, those are lovely places. Enjoy them.

but it would not sit well with me to just leave. I have no problem with those who make that choice. It is just not something that I am willing to do.

do it alone, or even with the folks on this board. How far will we have to sink only to have to rebuild it all again to where we were before? Will you live that long? I don't think I will see it in my lifetime, how about you?

19. No, I Can't Do It Alone |

And yes, it will take more than just the people at DU, but it has to start somewhere. The conservatives didn't take control of our country by running away, and we won't take it back by running away. It will take time, and it will take hard work. Will it happen in my lifetime? I sure hope so. But even if it doesn't, I will be here working to move it in the right direction (I guess I should say correct direction).

9. I'm thinking of Denmark or some other Scandanavian country. |
|
(I don't like the tropics and too much heat.) But, they probably don't want any aging Americans either.

Europe was our first choice, Scotland actually, as my wife has lineage there. But then Blair got re-elected and we did a double take!!!! WTF?!!!
So me being born in Florida hot weather is not something i'm unfamiliar with, although I many times cuss it.

20. Belize is an interesting place - |
|
has been a country only a little while, official language English (and people there speak it well, although there is also the local pidgeon dialect that is impossible to understand) the fishing is amazing and the real estate prices are not enormous (yet?).
The problem (and understand, this is from a one-day visit from a cruise ship) is that it is not very developed yet... High speed internet has been put in place in very few areas only a few months ago. The only movie theater in the capital closed recently, since (as I was told) everyone watches TV instead of going to the movies. I think there is great future for the place, in terms of unexplored tourist potential, but living there right now could be a drag.
