Well I said I would send a LTTE about the BRAC announcement, and here is what I am mailing out in the morning.
Make any corrections or suggestions if you want because it's not in the envelope yet and last time I did this first my LTTE was published :-)!
May 15, 2005 Letter to the Editor The Kenton Times 201 East Columbus Street Kenton, Ohio 43326
Dear Editor,
I was reading the paper the other day about the recent BRAC announcement and was wondering why on earth anyone would consider closing (edit)ANY(edit) base during a time of war, two wars at that. Where is the outrage? 10 jobs might not seem a lot to average Joe but it means a lot for a Hardin County as a whole. I want to know as a concerned citizen where exactly the support lies for our troops. Bases are closing, VA hospitals are closing and yet no one is questioning the Republican control of the House and Senate. I ask the question again. Why would anyone close military bases in a time of war(s)? Donald Rumsfeld and the Republicans say it will save us $49 billion over 20 years. I have an idea for them, how about getting our troops out of Iraq and protect us here at home and save us $80 billion this year alone! President Bush and the Republicans like to say they support the troops, but how do they show it? They divided us as a country over guns, god and gays and we fall for it hook, line and sinker. What is important to us anymore? We are being lied to everyday, yet we keep falling for the same old bait and switch tactics that President Bush and the Republicans pull on us. 10 jobs here and 100 jobs in another town means nothing to them, and you me mean nothing to them. I wonder why President Bush and the Republicans are weakening our military? You have to wonder where their priorities are, because last I checked closing bases and VA hospitals and cutting veterans benefits was not supporting the troops.
Sincerely,
WLKjr

1. If bases or service centers are redundant, they should certainly |
|
be cut. I say that as a taxpayer and as a person involved with the military. That isn't to say that every proposed cut makes sense, but I have to disagree with your statement about "ANY" base being cut.

3. We spend more on the military than the rest of the world combined. |
|
If we couldn't get along spending 50% less, we don't deserve to survive.

4. You would think with all this technology... |
|
that we could spend less and be better protected too. But they spend money in the wrong places.
