Do Republicans stipulate that Dems are just smarter? |
|
Republicans act for all the world like they think Dems are smarter. That is why they don't try to engage us with facts. They bring in a guy like Bush whose very existence is based on sliding past facts and stick him in the White House. Tom DeLay runs Congress like a common thug, a stupider, uglier version of Gotti.
I think the Republicans know we are smarter. They know we have the facts, but they don't care. They are rebelling against the truth.

1. If they engage us on the facts, they'll lose. |
|
That's why they are spinning their own reality.

3. "If we're so smart, why are we losing?" |
|
I mean that in a fun way based on my history :) Dad used to listen to some teens that hung out and how they felt they were far smarter then the adults and he would ask things like "if you're so smart, why aren't you doing better in school (or why aren't you rich, etc and so on - depended on the kid usually).
And on 'the facts' - I think those are based on the outcome and the frame of reference you hold idelogically sometimes. And even then, things can get weird on both sides of things - ala tv and movies. The right whines about movies and their impact, then we tell em they don't have to see them, and then we do the same thing with passion of the christ et al (note please: not all, but some do, which muddies the waters on what the facts really are - do movies/tv have an influence really and if so does that mean the right has reason to worry about how things are depicted which would make it a fact to them that some shows encourage sex, etc and so on?).
Bottom line on the above - facts often depend on the outcome desired and how one looks at what actions bring what results.
Now back to the question you asked: They know we are smarter, but they also know we are more caring and they use that to their advantage. They have no qualms with lying and cheating to get ahead...

4. brother goes on about how i think i am smarter, more enligthened |
|
now i dont think i am smarter than he is per say. nor have i ever said anything even remotely close to that. i wouldnt. when we discuss something i disguss the facts, not what i think about him or his opinion. he also says i think he is a knuckle draggin, crotch grabbin male. haev never said that to him either
my point. he is the one that continually tells me this is what i think. my thought is he is projecting, he is feeling dumb, and he is feeling nuckle draggin so he projects this is how i feel about him when ultimately it is how he is seeing himself, when conversing politics with me
yes i do think about all repugs i discuss politics inevitably feel uninformed, ergo stupid. what happens when you keep it on fox

5. If you get onto some of the other boards where there are freeper |
|
& GOP role playing types.. they universally try and keep the conversation away from any intelligent exchange of information.
You see that pattern again, and again.
They'll distort open and clear debate by any means possible and try and personal attacks to get you to cede.
Just keep fighting and remind them that it is sociopaths who trying and impose rules on others ...which they themselves never follow.
Keep it real. Point out this pattern to them. Tell them that their debating skills come from some sort of KAOS manual for the New American Century.
Then keep the discussion up on the topics you think are important. And ask them to answer clear questions without resorting to obfuscation.

6. They "stipulate" strategically. |
|
They view our intelligence as a liability to us. They use it against us and to them the only intelligence that matters is psychology. They read people like books. They count on us being lost in discussion just long enough for them to slip their BS through.
The other side of it is that those who do believe that we are smarter believe that in the end the only smarts that matter are bible smarts. I know people who have actually said "Well, I don't know about all that," (that being whatever salient point I had just made), "but I do know that George Bush is a good man." Pure drivel and yet they believe it in their heart. These are words coming from someone who knows that there are no SATs at the pearly gates. In fact they believe that they are passing the only test there is by simply buying what the church and the GOP is selling.
Neocons are just as smart as we are, they just choose to use their intelligence for self-serving manipulation of the masses. Progressives use their intelligence to come up with solutions that benefit everyone. Neocons figure out a way to create societal needs then they exploit those needs to fill their own needs for power and influence. It is important to note that this and all issues are no longer Repub vs. Democrat. There are those in both parties that have decidedly regressive views and endorse decidedly backwards policies. The saving grace in all of this is that society is inherently progressive. Hiccups in this progress (e.g. fundamentalist uprisings etc.) can only destroy society if used in tandem with genocide. Once the ideals that progressives embrace are forwarded and understood, there is no removing them from public discussion without removing all those that embrace those ideals. If we disallow the success that neocons are having, they will be forced to redirect their intelligence. It is not easy because those who cheat are difficult to best. Our best weapon is our voice. No more shame. No more turning down Air America when someone you don't know comes around out of fear that an argument will ensue. They will always lose when presented with facts so by all means hope beyond hope for the opportunity to engage them.

11. Republicans are far better marks for con men |
|
Which is why they attract con men like shit attracts flies.
A lot of the rest of the argument is just that of rural people vs urban people. Rural people believe they own all of the morality, urban people think they have a monopoly on intelligence. Rural people tout glaring kinds of narrow minded provincialisms, urban people tout failed cosmopolitanisms.
