God Bless you Bill Moyers and Keith Olbermann
Edited on Tue May-17-05 01:28 AM by xray s
I just watched Bill Moyers speech on c-span and have been reading about Keith Olbermann calling for Scott McClelland to resign because of his shameless and hypocritical attack on Newsweek.

Lately I have been getting more and more cynical that there are no voices out there in the media fighting for our freedom and our rights against the relentless onslaught of those who favor intolerance and war and corporate profits over everything else, and who want to turn this country into a thought police state.

Bill and Keith gave me some hope tonight. I don't think we could ask for better spokesmen for our cause.

Let the battle begin...

2. Bill Moyers mentioned that
Common Cause and Consumer's Union were building a campaign to "take back the media"

That's good news! I hope we can get some info soon.

5. How? How is that possible?
.
How? How is that possible? How is it possible to "take back the news media" when the "news media" is owned by a concentrated small group of corporations that will not speak out against itself? Corporations who, overall, donate to one political party? A political party (the majority in 2 branches of our government) who is hell bent on further concentration of the "news media" through our nation's Federal Communications Commission (FCC)?

Uuummmm, they are rhetorical questions. No reply necessary.

oooooppsssie. there goes the 3rd branch of our government too!

12. control
Even though the pugs have effective control over much of the media, ownership of the media is not yet so concentrated that they have 100% control. Hence, the need recently to put CBS and Newsweek down a few pegs. Even pressure on the NYT.

3. I 2nd that blessing! I watched both of them tonite (only good thing on) &
I have to say, they gave me hope too! I will say that they are atleast willing to fight the good fight as the rest of the media whores bend over to this administration. Those that bend over will only find that they, well, you get the picture....

Atleast Moyers and Keith O' will go down with the good fight and have their integrity in tact at the very least!

4. Keith called for Scotty's resignation?
I watched Countdown tonight, but I was busy cooking too and may have missed it. Was it on the show, or somewhere else?

I haven't been reading that as faithfully lately. It's just not (usually) as interesting as it was right after "election" day.

7. That brilliant suggestion came from his blog...
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7873141/#050516b

Ultimately, though, the administration may have effected its biggest mistake over this saga, in making the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs look like a liar or naïf, just to draw a little blood out of Newsweek’s hide. Either way - and also for that tasteless, soul-less conclusion that deaths in Afghanistan should be lain at the magazine’s doorstep - Scott McClellan should resign. The expiration on his carton full of blank-eyed bully-collaborator act passed this afternoon as he sat reeling off those holier-than-thou remarks. Ah, that’s what I smelled.

8. Also see this great thread with quotes from Keith Olbermann on this:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1787820
Thread title: "Keith Olbermann calls for little Scotty McClellan's resignation"

He has pulled out all the stops. He calls it what it really is, an expression of deep moral outrage that takes true courage in the neocon-controlled corporate media.

Newsweek segment.

16. It's going to be long torturous 3 years.
Hopefully the Dems will grow spines and stand up for working Amerikans and gain a majority in the House, at least.
