Downing Street memo as a full page ad in the New York Times?
What do you think? I have seen the power of DU! It appears that it would cost a pretty dollar(http://www.nytadvertising.com/was/files/others/2005_Rate_Book_PDF_Media.pdf), but if a few thousand members contributed $10...

29. Read more about the Downing Street memo and sign petition here
I already asked EARL, RON and Gordon to ask THE CHIMP why he has lied to the American people.....well that is not what I said....I just copied and pasted this below into their websites and emailed them to INVESTIGATE THE DOWNING STREET MEMO.

http://www.downingstreetmemo.com/takeaction.html

Eighty-eight members of Congress asked President Bush to address the Downing Street Memo on May 6, 2005. The White House has yet to respond. Contact the President and urge him to address the explosive allegations in the memo. As Americans, we deserve to know the truth.

I think begging for money in a post during DU fundraising time is not cool.

6. True.
I was just posting an idea! We can wait till fund raising week has finished. We can think of others way to find sponsorship too (MoveOn, Kerry, etc)?

Just brainstorming here.... :-)

7. I would give $10 - would MoveOn, or ACT or the Media Fund or DNC or
Friends of John Kerry, or anyone else rise up and get this going?

Possibly Bill Moyers, or whoever organized that "Media Reform Convention" in St. Louis would do this.

How do great ideas like this that rise up from the grass roots here at DU ever make it to the progressive organizations that could make them happen?

Do we have to post them at other blogs? Kos? E-mail them to Dean's "Democracy for America"? So many fantastic ideas come from people here at DU, it is a shame that no one (AFAIK) regularly parses DU for ideas to implement.

This idea is a real winner - Kerry recently ran a large AD in USA Today - I gladly helped fund that one.

How about some billboards with critical excerpts from the memo? Progressives seem to completely neglect billboards, while I constantly see "One Nation Under God" and "Pray for America" and "Our Leader (Bush) Billboards.

8. What we should do...
instead of taking one out in the NYT, most NYers are fairly liberal, anti-Bush anyway. What we should do is take out page ads in the Nashville Times, the St. Petersburg Times, Atlanta, Houston, Pheonix, Salt Lake City, Denver, and other major red-state cities. That'll open some eyes.

10. If you pay them enough...
I think that most republicans would turn in their grandmothers if given enough money. Maybe most of the conservatives wouldn't, but the republicans, yes.

24. Exactly
Even ads in the classified sections, they run graphic ads too. More bang for your buck. This is a great way to start breaking into the red areas.

15. Great idea - but....
The New York Times has routinely rejected advertisments. During the Nafta debate of the early 1990's - the rejected ads by Labor Unions that wanted to get their side of the story out. Judging by the Newsweek example, I don't see the mainstram press having much courage at this juncture in our history.

Who gives a crap about mistakes in Newsweek that Gen. Myers said didn't even cause the frickin riots in the first place.

We need to talk about the INTENTIONAL LIES that bush and his minions told that have caused the deaths of THOUSANDS.

20. Put it in USA today
Its better to put it in a paper that isnt seen by red-staters as an instrument of the left regardless of whether its true or not.Its also the paper that is distributed in more hotel chains than any other I believe which means even more people would see it.

and the founder has called for a pull-out of Iraq. They might even give us a discount.

I would be in favor of giving it money over NYT.

USA today has run political full page ads such as one from a catholic organization that told catholics how to vote during the GOP convention so I dont see why they wouldnt do this, unless the bushies threatened them.

33. I'm game.
I can afford a half-page at that rate, but i don't have the exact
advert. If someone here is not just joking, and would like to have
the downing street memo run as an advert, what does it take?

A full page PRINT and online version would surely be welcome in
Crawford... as then they'll have the scoop on the NYT and make the
rest of the newspaper country envious.

So we need the actual advert.... heck, i'd even splurge for a whole
page at that rate... but print is better.... oh... dear, after DU
and andy this month's expendibles are getting dear... but when the
world's paper's can't print the news, it must be advertized for the
public good.

These are very good. All sizes. Maybe coordinate with them? I think a classified ad buy with one of these would be worth it too.

35. DONE, i just ordered a 1/4th page in the print edition
If 3 other persons here order the same, it'll run as a 1-page!!

I asked that the ad be joined up if anyone else orders with the
same thing... just like on the website page you reference.

28. Bush lied........THOUSANDS DIED --- the Downing Street memo reveals all
http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/petition-sign.cgi?dsm

To: The President Of the United States

We, the citizens of the United States, join the 88 members of
Congress who demand that the President and his administration address
the disturbing revelations in the Downing Street Memo.

<snip>

President Bush repeatedly told us that dragging our brothers and
sisters into war was a "last resort" and that he was, up until March
2003, pursuing every last diplomatic option.

Based on the Downing Street Memo, we, the undersigned, believe we
were deliberately misled.

As early as July 2002, the memo reveals our President was determined
to take us to war.

The memo reveals that the Bush administration knew that North Korea
and Iran posed a greater threat to the United States, but choose to
invade Iraq instead based on a "thin case."

The memo reveals that the Bush administration "fixed the intelligence
and facts around the policy" in its deliberate course to take our
Nation to war.
