Poll question: POLL: Flushing the Q'ran down a toilet-- did it happen? |
|
What do you think? After what is known to have happened at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo, how likely is it that the military decided flushing a Q'ran (Koran) down the toilet really crossed the line?
Flushing the Q'ran down a toilet-- did it happen?

3. How about "Are the riots related to this incident"? |
|
I say NO!
See the photo? See the republicraps attach a lie to it?
They were probably protesting American occupation or interference.

Just dealing with the physics of "flushing a book down a toilet".
Perhaps they through it in a toilet, didn't flush it.
Or
They ripped pages from it and flushed the pages.
Or
It wasn't a flush toilet - something like a portolet.

The Pentagon signed off on the report and said nothing about it.
the first story about the flushing of the Koran was in March of 2003 as near as I can tell.
Of course it's true.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/5/15/211444/985And the Pentagon had 11 days to review the Newsweek story and tell him to retract that if they wanted. But suuuuuuure, I believe them. NOT.

13. They threw it in a shit bucket. |

I seriously doubt that these cells have indoor plumbing, and thus no toilets. Like on HBO's OZ, those prisoners have buckets to void in. This Koran was probably t\hrown into a full one.
The terms "flush it down" is what I believe is inaccurate, not the actual damage to the book in fecal matter.

I mean, really, dig through the WH rhetoric. "Well, we electrocuted a guy's balls, made people think they were having menstrual blood being wiped on them, did a whole list of heinous shit, but we didn't do that Q'ran thing. Boy the media is a bunch of liars, aren't they?"
Kiss my ass Commander Cuckoo-bananas and all his spawn.

16. How do you flush it down a toilet - what kind of toilets are these? |
|
Edited on Tue May-17-05 03:44 PM by erichzann
Maybe I'm too unfamiliar with either toilets or Q'rans but the toilets I'm familiar have holes to small to fit the books I'm familiar with down them...
I'm not denying that the heart of the story is likely to be true, its just a semantic thing that was gnawing at me since I first heard the story..

17. The story has been in the press for TWO YEARS |
|
as told by released prisoners. However, consider that the "toilet" in question is generally a BUCKET in the prisoner's cell. Tossing the Koran into a bucket? Probably been done over and over again.
The only thing different about this time is that the story was either leaked or planted (depending on how suspicious you are) by a Pentagon insider and that it said "flushed." I don't know if any of you have ever seen a Koran, but it would be an all day project to dismantle it sufficiently to get it to flush without stopping up the plumbing.
However, showing it the ultimate disrespect by throwing it into a bucket or other human waste receptacle has undoubtedly been done, and continues to be done. What the US is doing to these people in my name is making me horribly ashamed in my country.
I remember the days when we humanely treated prisoners, not because of who they were, but because of who we were.
I will never forgive any of the fascists for this.

20. Yes, 50+ prisoners at Guantanamo have made claims re: the |
|
military's desecration of the Koran. In each case, the military refuses to corroborate. (What a surprise!)
We've all seen the pictures of Abu Ghriab. We know what they're capable of.

It is clear that this was part of the attempt of the Bush interrogators to break down the Gitmo detainees. This incident happen and the pentagon is lying to cover up.

Ms Rice can say whatever she wants, but the damage has been done. Those that hate the US will hate it even more, if that is possible. Of course a book, even a little one, can't be flushed. I agree that it must have been thrown in a waste bucket.

24. It's a non-violent torture method...of course they'd use it. |
|
Similar to wringing the neck of a child's teddy bear. Doesn't really cause any documentable harm but is traumatizing to the psyche of someone invested in its care.
