5. The government may be brought down
In Canada right now we have a minority government. The budget is up for a vote on Thursday, if it fails we have an election. THe house is so evenly split ONE vote could make the decision. Today, a conservative party member (The opposition) crossed the floor and joined the Liberal party (The reigning government).

So, now things just got more exciting.

10. Have you heard anything about the meeting with Martin and
our new Ambassador to the US, McKenna, that occurred today? CTV, earlier, was hinting there may be more surprises yet to come from the Liberals. The only thing I can think of is some kind of agreement on one of the many trade issues, could be wrong tho.

13. Nothing yet
I'm guessing Martin is at home sharing a bottle of Whiskey with Harper.

19. Nope, and I have proof!
I received a phone call pushing Harper's agenda yesterday, it was a DEFINITE campaign phone call. I told the young man to take a message back to Harper, the message was: Get your ass back to work which is what you are being paid to do. I asked the young man if he was getting my anger on Harper and his stunts clearly, the young man laughed and said yes, lol.

20. I keep hoping McKenna will sign on to run and become part of the
team. Even as a fiscal conservative..he is a great leader and would make one in the event Martin lasts only 5 years.

21. I used to think so till his close relationship and board membership
on the Carlyle Group, now I wouldn't trust him as far as I can throw him. Let him continue to golf with Pappy bush instead.

22. Oh but he is a politician. And they like the social program/fiscal
business mix that keeps them in power.

I doubt he would sell out the country. If he took the money and ran..good on ya buddy.

I too would be upset if he started spewing anti-federalist, anti-health care, anti-national neocons spit.

But I have not seen that as of yet from him.

23. The Carlyle Group is not just any corporation/business
I wouldn't have any problem with him having connections if that were the case. The Carlyle Group has no allegiance to any country and would destroy any country if it was in their interests to do so, including Canada.

24. Yes but they are **** drinkers. They drink their own kook-aid. They
may have underestimated their control over other people. Remember the culture of being an elite is quite different among the two countries.

25. My point is McKenna has been enjoying their kool-aid
which makes him untrustworthy, imo. It is simply not worth the risk, there are other Canadians who are NOT Carlyle board members with political skills.

Which is why I like him. And why I think we need someone like him these days.

30. Now, now. Some parts of Canada are not the centre of the Universe
and they push hard for every job they get. It comes to easy to Central Canada and Alberta methinks.

What would you have expect a leader to try and do for that province?

Ignore the issue? Play with his vast collection of dolls?

Please, on behalf of all disgruntled and frightened citizens of Bushovia, I beg you, do not allow yourselves to be taken over by the Cons. North America deserves at least one free, democratic nation (although Mexico is looking up these days).

"But it'd only be for a few months", you say. Think what PNAC could do in those few months... Anschluss, anyone? :scared:

Edit: Residents of Bushovia are technically not considered "citizens" but "peons". But you knew what I meant, eh?

Hope that you end up with a better government than you have now, if the problems are that bad, and that there is no =ahem= outside interference from those against medical marijuana, etc.

29. Canadian and US corporations are closely tied.
They are pushing thier radical agenda because they fear the maturing of the global market past the neo-colonial structures that keep the US globally dominant and that benefit, by asscociation canadian companies.

35. Harper just did more than just blink, he caved!
Tories to support budget but try to topple gov't

CTV.ca News Staff

Conservative Leader Stephen Harper announced Tuesday night that the Tories would be voting in support of the federal budget on Thursday, but that they would still try to defeat the minority government on an amendment.

The amendment in question proposes $4.6 billion in spending on housing and the environment and also proposes a delay in a series of corporate tax cuts.

Harper announced the decision after a caucus meeting Tuesday night, hours after high-profile MP Belinda Stronach defected to the Liberals.

Earlier in the day, Harper said Stronach's move made it less likely that the government would be defeated on Thursday.
