He would be a fool not to attend. He needs to prove himself and this is the forum for people to see what he's like.

2. Why should this be a DNC announcement? |
|
If Clark is running for President, he should be expected to show up at these debates. If anyone should make the announcement, it should be Clark's campaign, not the DNC.

It is on Clark's website? Can't his supporters send out a memo or something?

16. Maybe the DNC is trying to show the difference between the late entries |
|
Schwarznegger can't show up to the first debate in Cali. Only shows when he knows what the questions will be.
A late arrival to the Democratic nomination process is able and capable of joining the debate unscripted, and hits the ground running.
I am still not a supporter of any particular candidate. That is why I can see how the DNC would play this role.

it was my first thought too. Did they announce for everyone who'd attend? This doesn't smack of establishment or anything....
Hmmm.

before the confusion hit. I assume they're just trying to clear it up once and for all.

9. why shouldn't the DNC announce who is going to atten the debate |
|
if it's a DNC sponsored event, why shouldn't they announce that Clark is going to participate?
There was a question if he was going to or not, and they cleared it up.
I'm sure that his campaign has put out a press release as well.

...There shouldn't even be a question about it. Democratic candidates attend DNC-sponsored debates. Period. Full stop.
That there was even a question about it (and that the DNC has to make an announcement) is weird.

11. DNC originally had certain criteria |
|
Edited on Fri Sep-19-03 11:03 AM by ed_vadem
for being in the debates, that were set way back in July or August.
Obviously, DNC had to issue an "invitation" in order to "override" this original critieria.
One of the crtieria was that they file and form a campaign by mid August I believe. No they didnt need to formally announce but I suspect Clark even today does not meet the criteria.
ON EDIT
Amd yes I do believe the criteria should be changed for any debates held after this first round. And I do believe all participants should be at 5% in atleast 3 national crdible polls. Sorry but 10 is far too many IMHO for any rational decision making process.

He's in the debate..... For those who oppose this candidate nothing, nothing will ever change your mind or make you happy, if the establishment is behind him then maybe they think he has the most widespread appeal to the moderate and swing voter. My God this about getting rid of the most corrupt and STUPID resident to ever occupy the WH. This is bigger than just our issues for the time being. It is about letting the RW know that even with all their money and the media they do not own the people and if this candidate is the one to do it then great. The positive momentum that the Dem party will get by ridding the US of * will bring a new light to the social issues that we believe so deeply in. We can't start to change a damn thing unless we have the WH. I love to simply just vote my "principles", but that battle is on hold until we occupy the WH. And don't think that any nominee or eventual new President will underestimate the internet and the momemtum it can create on an issue.

I am finding DU a less appealing place to visit with all the insipid and immature attacks on Clark and other candidates.

I was told Terry would be there to accept the letter. He was, of course, upstairs, too busy to come down and join in the media coverage. But the letter was read to the media outside, to the cheers of dozens of Clark supporters. Bottom Line: Clark WILL debate on Thursday. This should be a great debate.
