My letter to Lamar Alexander |
|
I feel helpless, having Fristler and Alexander as my senators, but what can you do? It's useless to appeal to Dobson Junior, but I've just sent this to Lamar Alexander, who in the past acted like he had some sense, and a backbone.
Dear Senator Alexander,
As a Democrat, I've never voted for you, but as a Tennessean, I've always respected you because I felt that you approached each issue thoughtfully.
Now we come to the greatest constitutional crisis in my lifetime, and unfortunately it looks like you will be voting with the rest of your party to do away with whatever rights the minority holds in the Senate. This is a grave mistake, one that will come back to haunt your party and this nation in the future.
I want you to know, for whatever it's worth, that if you vote to remove the filibuster in this naked power grab, that I will contribute both my money and my time in making sure that your term as a U.S. Senator will be your ONLY term.
(I was going to do that last part anyway, but what the heck.)

1. Greetings from a fellow Tennesseean!!! |

Great letter. Can't hurt to let 'em know how we feel; won't help either, but we might as well speak our mind while we can!
I always liked Lamar as well. Never voted for him, but thought he was a decent guy and decent governor. Looks like he's gone all the way over to the dark side however.
Welcome to DU!

Glad to see another fellow Tennessean! I, like you, feel helpless having these two represent our great state. Alexander is the only one that *might* listen long enough to give you a "sorry, but no" response.
Alexander sold his soul to Frist in his first election, from what I hear. It is rumored that in order for him to take the opportunity to run for Senate, that he was not to "rock the boat" that Frist was steering. In other words, do what Frist says all the time and do no question it.

I've been here quite a while; just don't post a lot.
I just wish we could get a few good candidates to run for office around here!

There are a few up and coming (shameless plug to myself) that are gearing up for a run here in East Tennesse.
Bredesen has done some great things here in the state and is generally well-liked (aside from turning his back on Kerry, I don't have any complaints). He is working on turning this state back to its blue self!
