ABC News to Air 'Resurrection' Defense
NEW YORK (AP) - After numerous allegations about liberal bias at the broadcast networks, an intriguing hourlong "20/20" grants airtime for five religious conservatives to explain their belief in Christianity's central miracle, the bodily Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the grave.

ABC's "Resurrection" program airing 10 p.m. EDT Friday also brings on liberal theologians to dismiss the Easter story as a misunderstanding or a myth rather than literal history.

The timing of "Resurrection," with correspondent Elizabeth Vargas, is odd and indicative:

2. I thought domestic propaganda was against the law.
I wonder who asked ABC and the rest of the media to talk about religion all the time.

5. This bugs me as well....
it seems every newspaper, TV show, and magazine has bent over backwards to include Christian stories. I'm not sure, but I haven't seen many shows on the teachings of Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, (insert additional, equally valid religions here) beliefs. Also, since when is Christianity NEWS, the events happened 2000 years ago, literally. Why is ABC news talking about something that anyone who has lived through the last two millenia could simply read. Oh that's right, the RW Christo-fascists CAN'T read, so they need it spelled out for them in pretty pictures on the television. F**king retards.

Disclaimer: I have nothing against religion, I think they are all equally stupid and archaic forms of answering questions about our purpose here on earth that have long-since been answered by other means. I agree with religion only as a social construct that teaches people how to become better human beings. Unfortunately, today the religions seem to teach intolerance and hatred (all of them!).

Sorry if I offend any religious DUers out there, it is not my intention, and besides, if we sat down together and discussed this topic, I think you might find that you would respect my opinion, just as I respect your choice to be a believer.

7. My christian friends are discusted by the public display of religion by...
...the media too.

According to the bible, devotion and faith is something you do in private. You don't demand that people witness your public display of religiosity. To do so suggests selfish, unspiritual reasons for being Christian.

What the media is doing for the WH is not to report on Christianity. It's to try to promote a public mood whereby society is looked at through the lens of a very conservative form of Christianity (anti-gay, anti-abortion) so that Republicans have an easier time winning elections. They're doing it to promote a mood of Christianity that suffuses public life (rather than interior, spiritual life). It's using religion to achieve political ends, which is very unchristian.

Americans are normally freaked out by theocracies and I don't think people realize that we're slipping into one in the US for the sole purpose of undermining the ability of progressives (people who believe that society exists to help one another, and who don't think of poverty as a moral failing -- ie, who actually live the bible without waving it around) can't get elected.

10. You're right
My rant was aimed at the "Christians" you see on TV, not the ones praying at home and at church. They usually don't like what they see on TV either. Well, some do, but not the ones that matter :)

6. Even stranger is current 'futurist' eschatology
Edited on Thu May-19-05 07:12 PM by EVDebs
The information in this posting will have the Republican party going to where there is much weeping and gnashing of teeth !

The 'futurist' Left Behind series eschatology-- of a pre-tribulation secret rapture of the saints-- is based upon a 16th century Counter-reformation Jesuit priest, Francisco Ribera, view which requires a single anti-christ who will eventually sit in a rebuilt 'Third Temple' in Jerusalem. This all to take the heat off Reformation preachers who pointed out the Papacy as the antichrist (the 'historicist' view).

No mention is made as to the fate of the already existing Al Aqsa Mosque that sits atop that Third Temple site on Mount Zion. This dangerous end-times view is oddly being the predominant Protestant view of the end times since mainly around the end of WWII.

The coincidence of our CIAs early leadership cadre being made up of mostly Knights of Malta (formerly the Knights Hospitallers) is very important, since Hal Lindsey, author of Late Great Planet Earth of the 70s, is a consultant to the CIA.

Wild Bill Donovan, James Jesus Angleton, Allen Dulles, John McCone, Bill Casey, etc. etc. were all Knights of Malta, a very loyal Catholic organization, as is the modern Opus Dei (founded in Franco's Spain in the 30s).

I would suggest a look at the 'historicist' viewpoint --see Preterism, Historicism, Futurism Explained
http://www.endtimeinsights.com/site/v2_3/content/view/31/63/
which better explains the prophesies IMHO. It also helps explain why Catholics, who for years would have excommunicated Freemasons (guys like Geo. Washington, Simon Bolivar, Porfirio Diaz, Giuseppe Garibaldi, Alexander Kerensky, etc.) now seem to have tolerated them, despite the CIAs trumped up "P2" scandal within the Vatican. This was a phony lodge designed to smear Freemasonry. And now I hear that Pope John Paul II will allow freemasons within the Catholic church. More likely just to cover things up with the Vatican Bank's scandal and keep the blame on that phony "lodge".

This ABC/Disney TV series and Elizabeth Vargas' contribution to the confusion on the end times tonight notwithstanding, more people should look into the book End Times Delusions by Steven Wohlberg and consider the reasons why our Founding Fathers, who were mostly Freemasons, venerated religious tolerance.

The Freemasons were an outgrowth of the Knights Templar, persecuted by the Pope in 1307 and the king of France at that time. Having gone underground for the ensuing four centuries, the Knights Templar emerged as the Freemasons of the 1700s. The works of John J. Robinson bear this out-- see Born In Blood: The Lost Secrets of Freemasonry and also Dungeon, Fire and Sword: The Knights Templar in the Crusades.

For further foundations in the prevalence of the 'historicist' view up until the end of WWII, see what happened in the Theft of the 'Pope's Stone'
http://www.nps.gov/wamo/history/chap3.htm

You may consider me a 'tin-foil-hat wearer' but the persistence of the Jesuits, Knights of Malta, 'futurist' view of the end-times seems to me to be only conducive to more strife in the Middle East...unnecessary strife, from an incorrect interpretation of scripture.

How huge a story is that ? Betcha Ms. Vargas won't tell that story. BTW, William Casey when he had his CapCities-ABC stock...ABC was known as 'The CIAs Network' ! The devil's own workshop.

8. What show did they have the five Atheists on?
I must have missed it. Too bad - it would have been an interesting take in a day and age when too often religions discussion is limited to mouth breathing fundies who's eyes roll in opposite directions screaming insane gibberish about the blood of the lamb and how gay people are evil and evolution is wrong while some tanned twit in a suit makes polite noises about how sincere the guest is in their belief even if he is foaming at the mouth and bites the heads off of kittens. ABC is to be congratulated for being brave enough to go against the tide of religious babble that is filling the airwaves.
:sarcasm:

9. I'm somewhat mollified they will have liberal believers on there but
you are right, they should have atheists as well to be truly well-rounded. (And what do you bet they barely even cover what the liberals think?)
