NEWS: Bush Extends Order Protecting Iraq Assets (OIL)
Um, I thought Iraq was 'free and independent' now? What did I miss that a foreign President can sign anything regarding Iraqi court claims? Just askin'.

WASHINGTON - President Bush on Thursday extended for another year an order that protects Iraq's oil assets from companies seeking compensation for losses under Saddam Hussein's rule.

Last May, Bush declared a national emergency that shielded the Development Fund for Iraq from court claims against those assets and other interests. He expanded and modified the order in August and two more times last year.

Bush said he was extending the order because U.S. national security is threatened by obstacles to an orderly reconstruction of Iraq and the move toward democracy.

8. Like there was any doubt
For the past twenty something years (if not more) the American government has taken out thirty-two dictators peacefully. Why then was Iraq and Saddam different? Oil.

9. this will certainly endear us to the Iraqi's
Who have to wait in line, sometimes overnight, to get a rationed portion of gasoline. You don't think they know were sitting on it so we can make windfall profits selling their oil to developing nations in the future?

Fucking assholes.

12. contrast with Bush's INACTION in taking steps against the Darfur genocide
Edited on Fri May-20-05 05:08 AM by Nothing Without Hope
This is truly shameful. Read the latest update here:

Thread title: “Genocide update: "NATO on alert to provide help in Darfur" (Bush silent)”

Guess we can see the real priorities of these "culture of life" self-professed "Christians." The Bush administration is actually taking steps AGAINST doing anything to control the ongoing killings - estimated 400,000 dead, with death rate rising - and has consistently grossly underestimated the number of deaths.

Truly shameful, if they had any shame at all.

Edited to add: recommended.
