"they'll train me around here until they need me." - Army Reserves tv spot
Just saw this commercial, and that line stood out to me.

Dad and son are playing pool, the son trying to talk the dad into agreeing on the son joining the Army Reserves.

Dad says, "its the Army."

Son replies, "its the Reserves."

Dad says, "its still the Army."

Son says, "....and they'll train me around here until the need me."

Dad says, "good training?"

Son says, "its the Army."

They're not pushing the weekend a month, two weeks a year anymore. Your now stateside, it seems, until "they" need you.

Seems significant, almost like the Army's saying they will be "called."

5. Only six?
Thought basic was something like 11-12 weeks (of course, this IS the Army we're talking about...guess it doesn't take much training to be an infantry grunt...)

2. Until they need me ...

... as cannon fodder, or more specifically, "IED" fodder.

3. And how long will they need you?
What a joke. Someone posted about this commercial a while back. Nobody is joining the army. Even though a lot of rightwingers still talk the big talk they're just chickenhawks.

6. Until you're dead ...

I casually know an army recruiter. He's retiring at the end of October, or at least that is his plan. He's an excellent human being and has hated his job ever since this war began. Initially, he was on board, but he, in the words of his peers, "thinks too much." He managed to get a kid signed up that by his own admission "wouldn't make it," but he had to make his quota.

The conversations I have with him now are very depressing. He's become quite anti-war, but he guards his words closely. Assuming he manages to retire without incident, I suspect he will become a very good ally in the fight against this immoral government.

4. Can you imagine the quality of recruits who will fall for that?
Yeah, right up until the moment "they need you," Cletus.
