George Galloway
Gorgeous George was on BBC Question Time last night. Question Time is a round table discussion programme broadcast on BBC1. Now, a word of warning Scotland is a much more left wing country than America.

Also on the the panel are Alex Salmond, the leader of the SNP ( left wing - anti-war nationalist party ). Alex is probably one of the most talented Scottish politicians.

Here is a full list of the panelists
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/question_time/4554929.stm
You may note that there is only one Tory on the panel; and she is a good deal more left wing than the English Tories.

1. Wow, thank you!
Can you tell I love George? I also am beginning to think I need to move to Scotland.

2. Aye, well
George doesn't live in Scotland anymore; but Alex Salmond still does. And the excellent Tommy Sheridan.

3. The spirit of people like George Galloway
is what founded our nation. Too bad the neocon/fundie morons don't realize this. I know that non-native born folks can't run for President here, but can foreign born folks run for Congress?
Let's try to get a bunch of folks like George to move here, become citizens, and run for office.

4. Alex Salmond is good...
But I don't agree with Scottish nationalism. Scottish people are basically the same as English and Welsh people, just with different accents and fewer teeth. It's stupid to make them a different country.
And I'm really starting to like Galloway. He's a good old-style Labour politician like Ken Livingstone.

This Scot thinks he's basically the same as the Irish.

9. Way wrong.
Scottish people are distinct from the English. Celtic and Anglo-Saxton cultures have their own histories, their own heroes, theirown values.

20. Jingoism
I'm British (at least it says so on my passport) and think I am basically the same as every other person on the planet. Is it really necessary to attach one's own identity to one's country of origin.

There's nothing as sad or destructive as nationalism.

5. Yeah, the Tory was quite amazing
I didn't catch the introductions and for a while sat there wondering who the token rightist on the panel is! I have never heard a Tory argue against incarceration and for community service before...

12. I did not see that much of it to be honest with you
The first question I saw was about the choice between nuclear\windfarm energy. I did see the very end of the previous question; but that was all unfortunatly.

13. Oh well that's a shame
he did slip an Iraq War reference into every single answer, even when discussing these proposed orange suits for offenders doing community service (you can guess the reference there, it ain't hard). It was also funny that someone asked the panel if they salute his courage, strength and indefatigability... and they pretty much all did. I particularly enjoyed the Tory describing him as a "wee Jack Russel with his dander up"... LOL!

I think that was when I had just switched over.

My headphones are bust, so I can't listen to it online at the moment either.

8. What is Anne McGuire's beef with Galloway?
If looks could kill! She was shaking her head everytime he said something. She looked and sounded like an idiot.

Other highlights:

Galloway: The neo-cons have taken over American politics so don't say their political sytem is better than our parliamentary system

Galloway: Margaret Thatcher flooded the coal fields and laid off all of the coal miners? what is that all about? Otherwise they could be using clean coal technology as an alternative fuel source. I need some history here.

Galloway: The G8 Summit at Glen Eagles in July? He wants hundreds of thousands of protestors!!! :)

Thank you again. That was a most enjoyable show. It is so nice to watch a real news/political show on a real news station. I haven't seen anything like that is AmeriKa in the last 30 years.

17. However, 'clean coal technology' does not yet solve the carbon dioxide
problem - no-one has yet come up with a practical method of carbon dioxide sequestration. If the miners had survived Thatcher, their jobs would be in just as much danger today (and with more reason now).

18. actually There is an Ex-US Military fellow
somewhere in the US Northwest who has come up with such a technology. I wish I had more detail, I heard him some months ago on NPR. Unfortunately with no incentives to clean up the air the Coal companies here in the US are not interested. They actually get tax incentives from bushco** to make our air dirtier. :grr:

21. But is it practical?
There are various companies working on the problem (see eg this article), but as that says, Norway has been trying it, but has decided it costs too much. And if the solution involves finding geological formations that will trap CO2, then it may be practical for some CO2 production, but not a large-scale solution.

If your man has come up with a new solution, and engineers (and economists) have checked the full system, then it would be interesting.

22. He certainly made it sound practical.
I have not done too much looking into it as it is a futile effort in the USA anyway. We are addicted to petrol and as long as the repukes have a stranglehold on this country no other alternatives will be researched or considered. :(

Thank you for the link.

19. I'm in favour of more money for fusion research, but that
pretty much places me on the lunatic fringe of opinion. Which is a shame, cos most Physicists I know think they could have it working and commercially viable in 20 years given a blank cheque. And that really would solve all our energy problems in a clean and sustainable way.
