Bush should have been told of plane scare - wife

By Adam Entous
SHANNON, Ireland (Reuters) - Contradicting the White House line, U.S. first lady Laura Bush said on Thursday the president should have been interrupted during a bike ride to be told about a plane scare that sent fighter jets scrambling over Washington and forced her to take cover in a bunker.

"I think he should have been interrupted, but I'm not going to second-guess the Secret Service that were with him," Laura Bush told reporters during her flight to Jordan to start a five-day solo visit to the Middle East. Her plane stopped in Shannon to refuel.

The first lady said she hoped her visit to Jordan, Israel and Egypt would help counter rising anti-American sentiment in the Muslim world, fueled by the war in Iraq and, more recently, by a Newsweek magazine report that the Koran was desecrated by U.S. interrogators. Newsweek has since retracted that report.

"I hope that the Middle East, the broader Middle East, get to know Americans like we really are," she said. "I don't think they really have the sense of Americans being religious ... being tolerant of every religion."

She blamed "terrible happenings," including the prison abuse scandal at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, for having "really, really hurt our image."

1. She's smarter than her husband
in that she understands that it's the abuse and not the reporting of the story that's causing all the bad will.

3. Given a pat on head
Any woman, in 90% of all Islamic countries, would be given a pat on the head right after a camel! She is only lowering herself and the nation by even going there. They believe that any religion but Islam is criminal just for allowing a woman to speak, let alone fly around the world not in traditional burqa! Their advice to her should be to go home and tell her paranoid husband to resign and get back to the outback of Texas.

5. Burka wearing is not universal in Islam....
And 90% is not the correct percentage....

Are there any Muslims in Coos Bay?

4. It's OK, Laura.
He wouldn't have known what to do, anyway.

6. Bush knew alright...
and he didn't care. Just like on 911 and when the Asian Tsunami hit. They are covering up for him-just a little P.R. to keep his base happy.

7. The people who are running this country knew about it,
so it's all OK. Just like the chimp sitting and reading My Pet Goat...the people who ran the country knew, and that's all that mattered.

9. So if they had interrupted his bike ride, he just would have
stared out in space for how long until someone took him by the hand and got him back to Washington?

10. It's not worth the trouble!
If glorious leader knew of the potential threat, it would take the secret service 6 hours to coax him out from under the bed inside this hidden bunker. It's just not worth the hassle so they didn't tell him.
