Right wing kook Phyllis Schlafly furious at being called "crazy"
Not a huge story, but one that hopefully will provide a little amusement to those who, like me, have long despised Phyllis Schlafly and her pernicious venom.

It happened this morning on the Lanigan and Malone Show on WMJI radio here in Cleveland. Apparently Ms. Schlafly has just published a new screed -- with a forward by Ann Coulter, no less -- and John Lanigan interviewed her, as he usually does when someone in the public eye publishes a book.

I only caught the last few minutes of the interview, when Lanigan was arguing with her over Terry Schiavo. In his political leanings Lanigan has evolved from an annoying anti-Clinton pocketbook conservative in the early 1990s (when I stopped listening to him for a long time) to a sensible, humane, and community-minded person who infuriates right-wing drones with his opinions. You can listen to his show online if you're interested: http://www.wmji.com/listen_live.html

Anyway, after the interview was over he went to a commercial, and off the air his colleague Chip Kulik (a libertarian/conservative) commented that Phyllis Schlafly was "a crazy woman". She was still on the phone at the time and, thinking Lanigan had said it and that they were still on the air, read him the riot act for how unprofessional and vicious he was, etc. etc.

This from a woman who, as the show's avowed liberal Jimmy Malone pointed out, has Ann Coulter write the forward to her book!

Of course this only goaded Kulik and he spent the rest of my drive into work making cracks about "the crazy old bat". I wish I had taped the show so I could send it to her.

10. Hey, honey, if the foo shits...
The one thing the right is champion at is projection, that psychological phenomenon that means that anything unattractive in oneself is projected onto someone else as though it was an attribute HE possessed, thus leaving oneself completely sane and blameless.

That's why everything they accuse the Democrats or the "left" of is exactly what they're doing, themselves. The worst thing you can do to them is point that out.

And that is why Schlafly went ballistic. She's the one who is crazy as a shithouse rat. Chip just broke through her wall of projection.

5. Hi, WI_DEM. Your pick, "repulsive," to describe Schlafly --
-- sure works for me.

4. Phylllis Schlafly is out of balance.
Everything she says reinforces the limitations of a negative society.

'Crazy' doesn't cover it. She's a lot worse than that. Like the patriarch in ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF SOLITUDE, Phyllis Schlafly should be tied to a very large tree, given food and water periodically, but otherwise left alone.

8. I have to agree with you all... there is something seriously broken there
as often seems to me to be the case with extremist conservatives. There is genuinely something miswired in their brains. I have often wondered whether this in them from birth, a result of their environment, or both.

9. Did She Zoom Off On Her Broom???
In the early 80's, she lived in my college town. She had vanity plates (a big thing at the time) that just invited her car from a constant pelting of beer cans, condoms, eggs and other human and non-human substances...LOL.

11. Her crusade du jour appears to be the war on "activist" judges
In fact her argument on the show today was that Article 3 of the Constitution gives Congress the power to do whatever they want to the courts, including throwing out judges for their role in the Terry Schiavo case. She also denounced the idea that the Constitution is a living, evolving document; in fact if I recall correctly her exact words were "The idea that the Constitution is a living, evolving document is incorrect."

Crazy as a march hare on a mercury enema!

13. What? When Lanigan sobered up, he started thinking clearly
and stopped being a stooge for Repukes??

It's a wonder he still has a job at WMJI (a Clear Channel station).

I may have to look into this. Somehow, I don't buy it. I avoided his stint on the Jerry Springer show the other day because he had been so rabid on Dems.

21. No, I'm not accusing you - I just believed that Lanigan was still a RWer
I will listen in to find out. I apologize for any misunderstanding of my post.

Lanigan did a hit-skip (while intoxicated) a year or so ago in a construction area - BIG STINK!

I just thought "Wow, I missed that he sobered up and started thinking clearly".

15. Well, she is, at best, full of shit.
She is so alien to me. She is incredibly manipulative of men, which has certainly served her personal interests quite well. I just find her a very odd, prolly crazy, manipulative and mean old woman.
