Is Jerry Springer's gig done? I have |
|
heard/read what a great job he's doing and my dad heard him yesterday, but Dad seems to think it was Springer's last day. Does anyone know?

1. I would applaud if you are right |
|
I think his show is boring and repetitive. Air America can do better. How about a Prime Time Malloy show to shake the Repukes up?

2. Springer is still featured on the AAR website. |

I listened a little while yesterday and I didn't hear anything that sounded like Springer was leaving. http://www.airamericaradio.com/shows/springer/

6. Burning The Candle On Three Sides |
|
Sooner than later Jerry's gonna burn out.
Besides the TV Zoo he runs from NBC Tower in Chicago (and that's going strong...still on over 150 TV stations in the U.S. and around the world)...and I think he has a couple years to go on his TV deal, he's doing news paper articles and lots of public speaking.
I don't think he realizes, as many who aren't "radio people", is that a 3-hour radio show requires 6 hours worth of daily preparation. It's not just reading the newspapers and watching the tube...it's developing show ideas and concepts that entertain as well as inform.
They just recently started to carry Jerry's show here in Chicago, and generally I find it as good as any from AAR. He's very populist that plays better in the "Red" states than a Franken or Rhodes and articulates his ideas well. The problem is he tries bits and gimmicks that either a producer puts together for him or are just made up on the spot and sound very amateurish. Also, he's still not quite sure where he fits on the spectrum of current talk radio (is he a "liberal" or mainstream) and where he fits within the ego strutcure of AAR itself.
I know folks in Cincinatti really enjoy him and having him on daily on a 50,000 watt signal in Southern Ohio every day can't be a bad thing.

9. Am I the only one who thinks he badly needs a sound engineer? |
|
I stream AAR starting with Rachel Maddow at 3AM MT, through Morning Sediiton and leave the house about 30 minutes into Springer. Yet, that 30 minutes has me pissed so badly, I am going to have to start turning it off.
Why? Because Springer mumbles so badly in between his emphatic (louder) comments, that even a loud volume (comparatively for the other AAR shows) means he fades in and out constantly. AAArgh! I find him to be less appealing than other AAR shows anyway, but have wanted to give him a fair chance. This, though, makes it impossible.

The marvels of modern technology allows you to set up a radio studio anywhere. Just like those satellite camera systems can pack a TV studio in a laptop, radio has a similar equivelent. As long as Jerry can connect to an ISDN line (fairly common now) he's on the air and it will sound like he's in the studio. This line can be in a hotel room, his home...anywhere. A lot of companies do this now.
Problems are that if he's not in a radio studio, chances are he's either on his own or with an engineer with nothing more than a cheap sound mixer...not equipped to do much of anything and the sound levels can be all over the place. ISDN also creates a delay between the talent and the studio...so it might take a fraction of a second for a response (this sounds awkward), or you can actually hear the "bounce back" on the calls. This becomes an even bigger mess when he's using a satellite connection where the delays are even longer (like his shows from England). If you're in a studio with a bunch of techs turning the knobs, it sounds good, if you're in a hotel room sitting in your skivvies, it can be trouble. LOL.
Lastly, about the streaming sound. AAR, like many other stations, send out an "unprocessed" signal on the internet. Unlike their radio signals that have limiters and other goodies that keep the sound levels constant, that's not always the case on the Internet. The advantage is, at least on some stations, you also get to hear the programming without the delay, so if someone flips off the host, you get those fireworks as well.
Cheers.

7. Not that I know of. I listened yesterday. |

No mention of that.
He's a big name fixture and will be great for AAR's growth.
