Everytime a thread gets a post, it moves back to the top of the page in the Lobby. 'Kicking' a thread is posting on it so it won't fall off the first page, because you think more people should see it.

8. U.N. was built as an institution to help protect our interests overseas
Use international institutions, don't condemn and abuse them.

NATO helps us share burdens of leadership.

Can get standing ovations for anti-U.N. stance, but U.N. needs American leadership and participation.

Was an all points bulletin sent out to recruit all these new Clark fanatics? There is an awful lot of new names singing the same verse and it is fucking boring. Clark is fucking boring and his naive supporters are fucking boring.

All of the consciousness raising and political sophistication has been replaced by juvenile pep rallies for Sir General. What a gift for Bush and his legacy--the Democrats are in a frenzy to elect a Republican. Cheers.

Even though it must bug the hell out of you, which I find incredibly amusing.

Edited on Fri Sep-19-03 06:51 PM by CWebster
and you will fade back into the obscurity from whense you came.

Progressives don't rally around DLC frontmen, sold to them overnight, with the argument that only by being and endorsing Republicans as Democrats, who mouth Democratic buzz words--just like Bush did, but serve a corporate master, can Democrats win. That means Democrats have bought the Republican version and play by their rules.

But hold up that illusion you must, for that is all it is, just like the Chimp's illusions about the glory of invading Iraq, any questioning and dissent is taboo. So, try as you might to stem the tide and hold back that insurmountable reality that your messiah has feet of clay, the day will come - it always does.

Tell me, if Bush was coached to repeat the right script, maybe the Democrats should consider running Bush as a Democrat---it would certainly put an end to all those complaints from the Republicans and the swing voters.

43. Hon - I'm sure I'm waay to the left of you and I support Clark -
I can only assume that I am one of the posters that you directed that venom towards because I'm new and I've written several posts about how I support Clark...

Not that I really have to explain this to you BUT I'm supporting ANYONE who will kick that current asshole out of office. I don't enjoy losing - unlike a lot of people on this board appparently. I've been on a ton of campaigns that have come in second place - and if your candidate loses - they - and their ideas just go away. They are ALL forgotten.

To be quite frank, there is NO-ONE out of all of the current Dem candidates who are as far to the left as I am - not even Kuchinich. CERTAINLY not the "pretend progressive" Nader. I could run out and vote for the Socialist candidate - but I really don't see the point.

I suppose you are one of those "noble" people who goes out and votes for a person like Nader and feels soooo morally superior to everyone else. Well other than a "self-satisfied" feeling - what did that give you and everyone else in this world? Have you noticed the world changed because you ran out and voted for Nader? Has that progressed this country at all?

When you vote a candidate in to office or ALLOW a candidate to be voted into office you are not only dealing with 4 years of policies - you are dealing with judges (both Federal and Supreme Court) who will be there for 10, 20, 30, 40 years.

53. That was quite a contemptious lecture against Nader and the Left
Comes natural, I bet.

Here is what gives you away. Your insistance that the most Republican of the candidates--with a history of militarism, is the preferrable winning face the Left should promote to win... that is not only a sell-out but a confession that Republican values are the only worthy ones.

What is the point of winning?

Before I hung out here, I frequented another politically mixed board--a few progressives and Greens (extremely detailed well-researched arguments from the Greens),a few clowns, a few moderates and mobs of reactionary free market thugs and pompous Republican misogynsts. Damn if this place isn't starting to feel that way.

Pepperbelly, for a while my mantra was that Progressives need to wrap their message and proposals up in a MODERATE package.

Every candidate is selling himself and his views... it's not just a matter of WHAT those views are !

IT'S A MATTER OF HOW THEY ARE PERCIEVED!

How the hell did Junior get close enough to steal the election? HE RAN AS A MODERATE!

60. Clark is the Man
This is impeccable reasoning...

A Clark/Powell candidacy would give the Democrats the first black presidential nominee. Clark/Powell would checkmate Jesse Jackson. He would hold and probably even expand the Democratic base -- especially among Southerners, people who like soldiers and heroes, who've abandoned the Democratic Party. Clark/Powell would also win a lot of Republicans. He'd get his share of moderate Republicans and others uneasy with the growing influence of the Religious Right in the GOP. He would win all the wobblies -- in part because Clark/Powell is a wobbly himself. He would win many of the Perotistas, Rush Limbaugh's "ditto-heads" and others fed up with career politicians.

http://www.annapolisinstitute.net/archives/commentary/pb1994211.html

heh...clark might get the black vote as well
