Repuke takeover of Corp for Public Broadcasting--Action Opportunity
MediaMatters.org has this on their latest email update

Support Dingell and Obey's call to investigate political influence in public broadcasting
Rep. John Dingell (D-MI), ranking Democrat on the House Commerce Committee, and Rep. David Obey (D-WI), ranking Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, have written a letter to the Inspector General of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) urging him to investigate recent efforts apparently aimed at imposing a conservative political agenda on public broadcasting. Help make sure that the Inspector General conducts a thorough investigation.

Here is the link you can go to to write a letter of support:
http://mediamatters.org/handsoff/emailrep.html

Here is my letter to my Reps. Sadly, it will go to "Randy"<and he is>Kuhl, the R rep who is accused of threatening his wife with a hunting rifle and is frequently aided by helpful cops who find him drunk on the side of the road in his home area (Yes, I met a couple who live in his area and told me this. You would never know ANY of this by living in his district and reading our papers)

So here is my letter which I addresed to Hillary and Chuck Schumer too. But its going to Kuhl. Yechh.

Anyway, hope you can support this call for investigation. Its important.

Dear Congressmembers Schumer, Clinton and Kuhl,

Please support Mr. Dingell and Mr. Obey's call to investigate conservative political influence at CPB.

I, like many Americans, am aghast at the conservative takeover of the media, and view it as the grease on the wheels spinning us into a very dangerous world of theocracy and fascistic governmental control.

Yes I used strong words, because we are indeed at such a critical juncture in America.

The founding fathers knew the importance of a free press to the ideals of Democracy, and this administration understands that too.

That is why the Conservative GOP is hell-bent on gaining ownership of the press, and it is why we MUST fight for CPB, our last large media outlet.

Please fight for this investigation.

Thank you,
<me>

1. Strong language indeed
but very necessary.Well written. I've almost given on PBS but NPR still has some credibility.

2. quite awhile ago I heard the most BIZARRE RW moralizer on NPR
It was during Tavis Smiley's show, before they dumped him (and what was up with that?) and while they still had Armstrong guesting with him---
So, this guy is talking, very florid and preacherly sounding language, you could barely understand his point, his rhetoric was so serpentine and tortured. But I "got" that underneath all the godly wholesomeness, what he was actually saying was, the Bible supports the killing of Ayrabs (This coming from a man who by the sound of his voice, was black)

I really thought I was in the twilight zone listening to him. That's why I remember it so clearly after all this time. It was this past winter, while I was driving home at night (I can only get AM radio in my car)

anyway, thanks for the kind words on my letter! It IS crucial, I think.

4. I missed that
I really enjoyed listening to Tavis, but I think we're starting to find out why he is gone. Tavis came on at 10:00 AM here. I never listen to AM, don't need it on my radios at all.

7. Wasn't that the guy claiming that Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton were
Race Traitors or something like that for teaching the black man to stop having family units and structure? Some kind of preacher who believed that the only way blacks would get respect from republicans was to become republican?

8. could be, I honestly don't remember much
of the swill except that part that stuck in my head. Wow, thanks for remembering this. So you heard it too? Did you think the same thing, about how he was so busy trying to sound more elevated than the rest of us rabble, that you couldn't even understand him?

Unbelievable. Just un-be-fucking-lievable. And they had no rebuttal or questioning or anything of the guy. Just let that spew stand, whole cloth.

Unbelievable.

3. My email
Dingell/Obey plan to investigate the Corporation of Public Broadcasting to keep it neutral. Conservatives believe that it has a "liberal bias" but theocratic neoconservatives who are connected to Rev. Moon are so extreme, Reagan would be considered a godless liberal by them.

CPB must be preserved so it can provide cultural, educational, and social programming that is in the public's best interest. Some conservatives may not like such freedom of information but it is needed for democracy to exist. "An informed citizenry is the bulwark of a democracy…"-Thomas Jefferson. Wise words from one of the founders of our nation.

Without information, democracy dies and turns to tyranny. Any true American will preserve democracy for future generations.

Thank you.

Falwell, my allegiance is to America, to democracy.
