Why I'm joining the GOP-Leaving the left for fun and profit
Edited on Sun May-29-05 05:53 AM by slaveplanet
The Chronicle

Jeff Gillenkirk

Sunday, May 29, 2005

After a lifetime voting for and working for Democratic candidates and independents, I'm finally going to make the switch and become a Republican.

The reasons are many, not the least of which is age. I turned 55 recently and, having lived more than half my life, I can't afford to worry anymore about the other guy. It's time for me.

As a Republican, I can now proudly -- indeed, defiantly -- pledge to never again vote for anyone who raises taxes for any reason. To hell with roads, bridges, schools, police and fire protection, Medicare, Social Security and regulation of the airwaves.

President Bush has promised to give me more tax cuts even though our federal government owes trillions of dollars to its creditors. But that's someone else's problem, not mine. Republicans are about the here and now, and I'm here now.

As a Republican, I can favor exploiting the environment for everything she's got. No need to worry about quaint notions like posterity and natural legacy. There are plenty of resources left for everyone, and if we don't use them, someone else will.

4. Not bad, but accepts some Repub myths
.. like they don't raise taxes (by increasing, then shifting the burden), that Dems (Kerry at least) would not have given most of us a tax cut, that regulation of airwaves is not a GOP mission, that supporting the GOP would benefit the writer in the short term....

When we try to feed the poor, save the enviroment, teach the children, and not bomb all the brown people, we're being selfish. Got it.

6. I also emailed the author and said that he will probably get emails
from members of the GOP thanking him for defending their side of the issues! a sad but true.

From the looks at the freeper site some of them are saying exactly that only complaining that he wasn't articulate enough!

Wow, mind boggling. As usual the arguments put forth don't hold any water. For instance one mentioned something about the author skipping the part about how they miss the part about the corrupt practices by which some (referring to Dems) get the money to pay for all their hand-outs!

Are you kidding me? I'm sure the Dems are by no means immune to corruption but the glaring corruption within the administration is sickening and the real kicker is that they have gutted the "hand-outs" at the same time!

Another says something totally offbase like : there is no evidence whatsoever to prove that any social program put in place by the Dems has worked! I kid you not, what universe are these people living in? Oh yeah that would be Fox universe, land of the fair and balanced.

7. you've got to admire the complete denial of this freeper
FR post:
As odd as this may sound, this sort of sarcastic illogic is what many liberals believe when you talk with them.

I've gotten some pretty good results lately from attacking the prejudice rather than refuting the point.

Example:

Lib: I guess Republican policies are fine if you don't mind starving children.

Me: What are you nuts? THERE ARE NO STARVING CHILDREN IN AMERICA. Show me a starving kid in America, and I'll show you a kid whose parents are preventing them from getting a meal.

no there are no starving kids in America... /sarcasm

must be nice to live in his fantasy world. As if it would be ok if there are starving children everywhere else but not in the US.

9. My jaw dropped when I read that
No children starving in America???? Parents preventing their kids from getting a meal?

I'm sure this guy is shit stirring, but I'm sure there are many Rethugs that feel there is nothing wrong in 'Murika! The culture of life truly stops at birth. Ifsomeone who is unable to emotionally or financially care for a child, then too bad for the child. They don't deserve any handouts, do they? After all, this is 'MURIKA! Only sissies ask for handouts, even if they're only 2 years old!

23. Hasn't been to Nebraska either - corn rots on the ground here
We are surrounded by food everywhere but it's unfit for human consumption. It's herbicide and pesticide laden undigestible crap they feed cattle. 78% of the food grown in America is not fed to humans.

Grant County, Nebraska $12,040 per capita income.
Thurston County, Nebraska $10,951 per capita income.
Blaine County, Nebraska $10,655 per capita income.
Loop County, Nebraska $6,235 per capita income.

We have plenty of hungry here in Nebraska.

15. A repub I know asked me to read this . . .he didn't see the irony.
No Joke! He read it in the paper edition last Sunday and thought the author was serious.

Maybe he didn't read the whole thing, but he asked me to read it when I got the chance. Wanted to know what I thought.

Boy I hope when I run into him at the dog park again, he forgets that he asked me about it. I'd have to laugh in his face.

24. They don't have
the basic ability to research facts. I wouldn't expect them to bother looking beyond what their figureheads say, or even to visit a slum to find out whether what they say is true or not.

22. I'm gone, too
It is a known fact among the investment and banking community that individuals who can show a certain net worth, through a legitimate broker, may speculate in the futures markets. However, it is not well known that there is a very small sector of the market, not heavily traded but watched by many influential individuals with keen interest, that trades in the future value of MBA degrees from a select pool of very exclusive business schools. When I found out that our current President had an MBA from Harvard Business School, I borrowed an amount equal to my capital holdings at the time and sold 20 contracts short. At the time that he was just a candidate, I was sweating out the prudence of my investment, but as the months went on, glee set in. Harvard MBAs, thanks to Our Dear Leader are down to $0.23 (U.S.) from a high of $3.425 million (U.S.). I have made so much stinking money from this inarticulate know-nothing jackass that I guess I can go buy myself a Texas congressman or two. Hello, Right Wing! I can buy my way in!! So long, suckers!!
