Whoa! Death penalty crimes under Dominionism....

"Under their version of "biblical law," the death penalty would be required for over a dozen categories of offenders, including adulterers, homosexuals, witches, incorrigible children and those who spread 'false' religions. They regard the teaching of evolution as part of a 'war against Genesis.'"

1. One of my ancestors was condemned as a witch in Salem
She was tortured and confessed, but refused to implicate her daughter, so was condemned. She died in Salem Jail. People that think theocracy is a good idea should read the history of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.

2. Yep. Or The Scarlet Letter....
The theocratic rulers of Puritan times, for all their good points (education, sense of community, hard work ethic) ruled with iron hearts if you dare to stray from the accepted path. I know many people feel we are headed for the same, but I truly think this will not last. The American people I know would not stand for it. Not for long, anyway.

Oh. Sorry about your ancestor, but that's just FASCINATING!

3. They also exiled people who didn't agree with their religious viewpoint
Roger Williams springs immediately to mind. What is fascinating reading the old town documents is that there was a certain percentage of Puritans who "went Native" and joined the local Native Americans. This is what other ancestors of mine did, being among the first settlers of Cape Cod. Plymouth Colony disowned them, but they didn't seem to mind, and years later they were allowed to be members of the colony again (though I doubt if it made much difference to them).

17. All final judgements on laws and the execution of the laws
go to the spiritual leaders.

7. Sadly, this is basically what our country was founded on
Capitalism in Virginia and religious fanaticism in Massachusetts.

Ironically, massachusetts is the most blue state in the country now.

6. Right.
Just think, if someone had a mental illness, like Tourette's Syndrome, how they could condemn them!

14. Actually, it would probably
eliminate much of the adult population. The tax base would vanish overnight.
