How To Stay Out of the Military (Primer on Draft Resistance)
http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig4/wiggins5.html

<snip>If you decide to register:

Find a post office for your registration that has an accessible photocopier.

Print in legible black ink across the middle of the registration form: I AM A CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTOR TO WAR IN ANY FORM. This is not a classification, but it may help you later to document your position as a CO. Selective Service makes no record of this declaration in its computer files, but they do make a microfilm record of the registration card. You should make a copy of your card for your file.

Make a photocopy of your registration form for your own records. Date it, fold and seal it, and mail it to yourself. The postmark confirms the date.

Put a complete statement of your conscientious objector beliefs on file with your religious body, the CCW, the CCCO, or any other counseling agency.

1. How about having the child opted out of the "No child left
Behind" as soon as they get into high school?

Consientious Objection

People who choose the CO route should know the following:

QUOTE

SERVICE AS A CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTOR
Two types of service are available to conscientious objectors, and the type assigned is determined by the individual's specific beliefs. The person who is opposed to any form of military service will be assigned to Alternative Service - described below. The person whose beliefs allow him to serve in the military but in a noncombatant capacity will serve in the Armed Forces but will not be assigned training or duties that include using weapons.

ALTERNATIVE SERVICE
Conscientious Objectors opposed to serving in the military will be placed in the Selective Service Alternative Service Program. This program attempts to match COs with local employers. Many types of jobs are available, however the job must be deemed to make a meaningful contribution to the maintenance of the national health, safety, and interest. Examples of Alternative Service are jobs in:

* conservation
* caring for the very young or very old
* education
* health care

Length of service in the program will equal the amount of time a man would have served in the military, usually 24 months.

13. had a conversation with a Quaker relative
about CO status and Vietnam. First, not all draft boards even allowed/considered it valid - even though the Quaker denomination is one of a few that had been granted religious belief grounds for CO.

Second, there needed to be an 'auditable trail' of information - over a period of time (not just ... last month I claimed that...) which might include interviews with adults who were familiar (at different times) with the subject and could attest to the sincerity of the beliefs.

Third, CO status meant doing alternative service - as described above.

In the relatives Quaker meeting there are both people who had been granted CO status, and people who chose to fight in Vietnam. Last year the had several discussions so young members who do not remember that era could have a better understanding of the issues - and an awareness that if a draft were reimplemented, they would need to establish a history of their beliefs in order to be more likely to be granted CO status (to prevent everyone from suddenly just 'being Quaker').

5. military draft is stupid.
It may sound terrible but some people have a better comparative advantage to enter the draft than others. Think of those in Vietnam who could have really made a difference in the world, future lawyers, scientist or statesmen but were instead forced to die. The military should be strictly voluntary.

9. I have not
even looked at the site yet but thank you. I have 19 and 17 year old sons and this scares me to death. I have done the CO research but one of them can't do it, he does not think he could actually be a CO. The youngest wouldn't hurt a fly, he can and will do this. THANKS

10. My prayers are with you and yours, My grandchildren are just a few
years behind your sons and I am deeply distressed. Our nation needs a standing military, but the decisions made by AWOL and his cabel are simply immoral.

A pox upon Republicans and Democrats who voted yes to give AWOL the authority to prremptively invade an innocent third world country.

Please speak out to friends and anyone you see and plead with them to support bringing our troops home -- immediately.

11. the easiest way to avoid the draft . . .
is simpy to wax poetic about your long-standing relationship with your gorgeous lover, Bruce . . . show them your engagement ring . . . or, better yet, your wedding ring . . . violate "don't ask, don't tell" right up front, and see if they still want you . . .

One could walk into the induction center in the most effeminate, flaming outfit imaginable! Or drug yourself up before the day of your physical. Or eat so much that you'll be too fat to serve (John Engler).
