Runaway Bride Pleads Guilty, Gets Probation
Thursday, June 02, 2005

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — With her once-jilted fiancé at her side, runaway bride Jennifer Wilbanks (search) pleaded guilty to a felony count of making a false statement on Thursday, a charge that stems from her concocting a tale of being abducted.

The judge sentenced her to two years of probation, 120 hours of community service, and told her to continue to seek mental health treatment and pay the sheriff's office $2,550. The felony charge carried a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

"I'm truly sorry for my actions and I just want to thank Gwinnett County and the city of Duluth," said a crying Wilbanks to the judge.

Her fiancé John Mason (search), whom she was to have married April 30 in a lavish ceremony, was with her as she arrived at the Gwinnett County courthouse.

8. I bet if she were a minority bride-to-be and had staged a fake
kidnapping, she'd have been spending about 5 years in jail. Of course, the fact that daddy has to money to repay various law enforcement agencies is helpful.

9. Maybe this is good news.
I don't care about the runaway bride, but maybe it's a good sign that Fox is rising to the level of CNN.

10. OK, FOX "News"...
...you've kept us up-to-date on this issue (for now), but what about Paris Hilton's engagement? Not to mention Michael Jackson's trial! C'mon, it's been 20 minutes since you last investigated and reported on these things to us--surely, there have been some new developments!!!

Get back on it, FOX! You're slipping!!!

14. what a waste of time and money and tax dollars by government
these things are so trivial - this is so stupid - same week they let arthur anderson people off free who snaked us and others out of money - this woman obviously got scared - this punishment is way more than the behavior
