Seen on the streets
Honestly, I am so sick and tired of those stupid "Support Our Troops" ribbons and American flags that I wish I could drive with my eyes shut. I went to my chiropractor appointment today, a 24 mile round trip, and saw no fewer than 15 vehicles with them. Of course all but one of them were gas-guzzling SUVs or jumbo pickup trucks.

Then I see a huge Ford SUV from South Carolina. On the left side of the tailgate there's the typical "Support Our Troops" ribbon. On the right there's a huge ribbon with a cross in the middle that proclaims "Pray for Our Troops". I wanted to tell the driver that:
1) Ribbons don't support our troops
2) Prayers don't support our troops
3) Your gas-guzzling SUV is just helping to perpetuate this war

Ignoramus!

At least I did see one sign of intelligence in the sea of freeperville. A car with a bumper sticker which stated the following:

George Bush brings out the worst in America!

I could have kissed that woman

1. I saw an "Impeach Bush" bumper sticker yesterday!
Here in the heart of Dorkest Arkansas, if you can imagine that. Neither the vehicle nor the driver looked anywhere near radical. Before I even realized what I was doing, my fist was in the air! Those 1968 reflexes are still pretty sharp--and little pockets of sanity are showing up, even in the Bible Belt.

19. Sad thing is
how much Troops' wives fuckin' is going on... and by other troops.

My sister is holding down the fort at Riley (KS) while my BIL is overseas, and she knows 2 wives of members of his unit, who have moved their boyfriends in while the husbands are in Iraq. One of the scumbags is an MP on base.

What strikes me as even more unbelievable is that they both have kids. As if the husbands won't find out? Not attempting to justify or minimize it, but some of the stories of domestic violence and murder committed by returning troops don't seem quite so shocking when you hear things like this.

Contemptible.

It's one thing when women without kids screw around... that's bad enough... but women WITH A FAMILY?

I just wanna shake 'em and scream, "WHAT THE EVERLOVING FUCK ARE YOU THINKING, "WOMAN"?! YOU CALL YOURSELF A "MOTHER", DO YOU? NO CHILD DESERVES A MOTHER SO DISGRACEFUL!"

Edited on Fri Jun-03-05 02:17 PM by comsymp
is that, in both cases, the Other Man is a "buddy" of the overseas husband, who was fortunate enough to remain stateside... while the poor SOB is dodging bullets and suffocating in the heat, his "buddy" is keeping the home fires burning, I guess~

Real esprit de corps, huh...

23. I guess it's just that we're supposed to have this 'mothering instinct'
that makes me so much madder at mothers who do this crap.

You have an excellent point about the behavior of the 'brothers in arms'. Truly indefensible.

27. Yet another reason why the so-called conservatives are not "pro-family"
Edited on Fri Jun-03-05 03:04 PM by IanDB1
They rant and scream about gay marriage "destroying families" and that "every child deserves a mother and a father," but then they go around sending all the fathers off to war, with many of them to never return.

Can you show me a SINGLE generation since the dawn of civilization where the majority of children were raised in households with their father never sent off to serve in an army or die in battle?

This war destroys families in so many ways.

Oh, and the Iraqi families count too.

And the so-called "culture of life" only seems to care about stem cells and gay people.

Maybe we need to convince them that if they go to war we'll turn their wives into lesbians and harvest their stemcells.

16. Am I the only DUer with a ribbon?
It's made in the USA, too.

I like reminding people who are too busy partying and eating and having a good old time that there are sodliers dying in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Does that make me a bad person?

18. No... ofcourse not!
Sometimes I get so disapointed in DU.

There is nothing wrong with having a ribbon on your car. If it brings YOU comfort, or helps REMIND other people what's happening than I say... GO FOR IT!

Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, should chastise you for having a SUPPORT OUR TROOPS message on your vehicle.

Where has the humanity gone on DU? It's fucking sad.
