Don't let partisanship dissuade us... |
|
Who cares if a source is partisan or not? If they speak the truth then that is what is important. We shouldn't allow our partisan status to preclude us (or our so-called partisan media) from speaking about issues of significance. For the administration to point to an alleged bias without addressing the substance of the issue is ridiculous in the extreme.
When the president or his henchmen point to the predetermined feelings of a news source, that source must respond by insisting on addressing the issue.
During the height of the Civil Rights movement, in a situation where Black trash- or garbage-men were protesting, many carried signs that asserted that "I AM A MAN". Political leanings notwithstanding, we need to assert that "WE ARE AMERICANS"!

1. The thing is, some of these claims of "partisanship" are bogus... |
|
...when they needed evidence of Saddam Hussein's abuses, this current administration was pleased as punch to use reports compiled by Amnesty International, whose credibility was unimpeachable according to Rumsfeld, for one.
It's the independence of AI that the Bush administration resents, and their lies about "partisanship" is just a smokescreen for that.
AI reports on abuses wherever they find them, regardless of how right or left-leaning the particular regime may be.

2. Of course you're right. Even so... |

When the claim is made, we should ignore it and pursue the truth, and insist that others do as well!
