"Iraq Puts Civilian Toll at 12,000" - - where is their candlelight vigil?
Edited on Fri Jun-03-05 04:38 PM by Bluebear
No candlelight vigils, no prayer chains, no telethons, no moments of silence... the world poured its heart out for us on 9/11, who mourns the deaths of these civilians? :(

====
BAGHDAD, June 2 -- Violence in the course of the 18-month-long insurgency has claimed the lives of 12,000 Iraqis, Interior Minister Bayan Jabr said Thursday, giving the first official count for the largest category of victims of bombings, ambushes and other increasingly deadly attacks.

At least 36 more Iraqi civilians, security force members and officials were killed Thursday in attacks that underscored the ruthlessness and growing randomness of much of the violence. The day's victims included 12 people killed when a suicide attacker drove a vehicle loaded with explosives into a restaurant near the northern city of Kirkuk.

In Baghdad, gunmen opened fire on a market area crowded with civilians, killing nine, the Defense Ministry said.

The U.S. military reported that two soldiers were killed Wednesday, by a bomb and by small-arms fire, in the western city of Ramadi.

2. 12,000 from the "insurgency", uncounted number from the US.

3. Yes, this appears to be an estimate of those
killed by the insurgents. The total body count in this war since March 19 2003 must be way over 100,000 now, as it was estimated to be around 100,000 by fall 04.

Anyway, it seems clear that US troops are doing the bulk of the killing.

5. Yup, and the way they phrase it sounds like they are discussing the period
following the "mission accomplished" charade.

So this is only those killed (accidentally or on purpose) by insurgents and doesn't include those killed by US bombs and "accidents".

We have reports estimating the civilian toll at over 100,000, so the 12,000 killed by insurgents seems a bit miniscule compared to the total dead.

Of course, none of the dead would be dead if not for Bush's illegal invasion. Without that, there would be no insurgency, and there would be no civilian death toll as a result of said insurgency, or as a result of coalition activity.

4. They forgot a zero
There's no candlelight. It's death and destruction as usual and it will be for quite a while...

Even the Amnesty International report was buried and ridiculed. Since when is there any doubt about their reporting?

6. They just lost 12,000 Iraqis.
WE, on the other hand lost 3,000 AMERICANS. Get it?

:sarcasm:
