(PHOTOS) I took a walk in Boston today
Just thought I would share.

A natural kettle hole formed by a glacier, Jamaica Pond was the first reservoir in America. It once hosted a commercial ice-cutting operation, and its banks held the country estates of prominent Bostonians. The Pond was incorporated into the Emerald Necklace plan in 1892, and a boathouse and bandstand were added at the turn of the century. Boats and sail boats are available in season. The boathouse telephone number is 617/522-6258.

The Pond is fed by natural springs and is the largest and purest body of water in the City of Boston. Every year it is stocked with trout, salmon and the indigenous fish of pickerel, bass, hornpout, and perch. Thus, one daily observes fishing on its banks.

A 1.4-mile walking trail circles the perimeter of the pond, and there are almost 11 acres of forest cover in the park. The path is designed for pedestrians only, a rule that the Boston Park Rangers enforce. A second paved path follows along the outer perimeter of the park along the Arborway. Despite heavy use, Jamaica Pond has very little trash.

We're pretty big on this stuff here:

My favorite house in this part of town:

My granddaughter Hannah loves ducks, so I had to show you these:

7. Thanks for the tour! I lived in Boston for a summer a long time
ago (Actually out in Somerville) and I never went to Jamaica Pond. I tended to go to the Esplanade....

Tomorrow or Sunday is the Arnold Arboretum. I'll probably do the Charles river in another week or so. Will walk up the Sorrow Drive side from the Esplanade to the Harvard bridge & come back the Memorial Drive side. Watch for pix.

on edit: grrrrrr. missing apostrophe

16. Can't wait for the next set of pix.
I used to walk the Storrow/Memorial loop whenever I could. One of my favorite sections was Harvard Square to Watertown. I liked walking on the Allston side on Sunday when the park was full of family groups camped out for the day with the picnic food and the kids running around being kids.

I miss Boston. There are good reasons why it's on the short list of great American cities.

Will the lilacs still be in bloom at the arboretum?

17. They might still be. It's been cold and rainy since March.
They should still be in full bloom. One of my favorite parts of of the Arb is the Bonsai house. I think it's fascinating to see an 8" tree that's almost 300 years old.

10. It was a beautiful day, wasn't it?
it hit 80 in my backyard, but there was a refreshing breeze.

I forgot how pretty Jamaica Pond is. I haven't been out there in years. Nice pics! :hi:

18. I visited Boston back in '73 or so...
I stayed in the city with an old girlfriend....it was quite lovely.
My only regret was not buying an old Regina music box for $35 from an antique store. It had turned cold while I was there, and being that I had visited from down south, I ended up buying a coat.
The coat is now long gone, but that music box would have a resale value of over $1000....plus I would have been able to enjoy those tunes for years.
Ah well....I have fond memories of Boston just the same. I loved the "feel" of the city.

19. It is a wonderful city. I came up here in 1973 and
can't bring myself to leaving. Winters up here are brutal. Two years ago the ocean froze. They had icebreakers running all around Boston harbor.

Here's what a cranberry bog in Duxbury looked like this Easter Sunday:

22. I was at JP around noonish & there was the usual complement
of moms and nannies strolling the kids. I took a few people pics, but none of them came out good enough to post. If you look closely at the 'duck' pix, you'll see at least one duck in each picture.

The temp was in the high 70s. All in all, a glorious day.
