Could Iman Cpt. Peter Yee be another Daniel Ellsworth??? |
|
What I find strange about the Muslim Chaplain case is that he was detained on Sept. 10 and we just hear about it now. He's still not charged with anything, except by the press...
But then again I make some pretty cool tinfoil hats...
Most of the new reports about the West Point graduate are about his link to Syria, as in he studied his religion there. Then re-enlisted in the army.
He is also allegedly to have had in his possession diagrams of Gitmo, lists of detainees, transcripts of interrogations, and reports on interrogators.
But wait, we are told he was detained by the order of "the highest level of government officials."
I am starting to think he was going to release stuff to the press. I don't really know, just call it a journalistic instinct...

1. Ellsberg wasn't 'disappeared'.... |
|
...though I'm sure Nixon would have liked to.
We'll never know what Yee had in his possession, or why.

3. We need more information about this case |

So far, we don't know very much.
Let's express some concern: Yee is being detained by the Bushies, who have no concerns about human rights in Guantanamo. We're supposed to believe that the detainees in Guantanamo are guilty, that we are supposed to accept the word of the junta on face value that they are guilty and that a fair and public would compromise national security.
This comes from the same crowd that told us there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and implied at every opportunity -- without accually ever saying so explicitly -- that Saddam helped plan the September 11 attacks. This junta is headed by the same idiot who, as governor of Texas, insisted that Gary Graham got a fair trial in spite of the fact that his attorney slept through key testimony and failed to cross examine themost damaging witness against Graham -- a lady who identified Graham as the killer from a distance of about forty feet in a dark parking lot.
We have no reason to take anything the junta about the guilt or innocence of any individual or due process at face value. That includes Captain Yee.
We must insist on an open trial. We must insist that Captain Yee be able to contront his accusers in public and examine the evidence against him. We must insist that he be represented by competent council of his choice and that the government shall not veto that choice for any reason. We must insist that he not just be spirited away to a secret prison and held incommunicado.

I am not convinced we'll get it. Oh, we'll get innuendo and veiled racial/religuous smears. But, he is in the same brig as Padilla and Hamidi...
With words like treason and traior and Al-queda... I don't expect the truth to come out...
