Richard Florida, author of the Rise Of The Creative Class argues
that societies that are going to be successful need three ingredients: Technology, Talent and Tolerance for Diversity.Creative people are attracted to a mix of these three and any country that can provide all three in abundant quantities are the ones that are going to be successful. This is because capital has become so mobile that there is no need for anyone to put up with third rate conditions when they can have significantly improved quality of life anywhere on earth where these ingredients are available. He specifically cites the examples of Shanghai and Bangalore as the next preferred destinations for the Creative Class.

What is sad about this analysis is that, America ,that wrote the book on providing a haven for the dispossessed and created what can be truly regarded as the first society that rewarded merit is abandoning its tradition of tolerance and is making it possible for the rise of off shore havens that are going to dominate intellectual and technological life in the future.

3. It seems Wellington, New Zealand is also a "hot spot" for the
creative class, especially in software design. And it seems America is no longer the first-choice destination for those studying and working in techno areas, due to the "security" issue, and what foreign nationals are put through to enter the country on a work/study visa. But if foreigners are here to do "grunt" work for $2 an hour, no security problems!
