propagander: "DC 9/11: Time of Crisis" -incredible altar of neocon worship
Edited on Sun Sep-21-03 04:19 PM by thebigidea

I've watched this film several times now (ok, not all the way through, not in one sitting, not without constant snarky comments from friends and so forth interspersed...) and I'm still flabberghasted.

This is a towering propaganda achievment, a Goebbelsian coup of stunning scope... revising history, deifying a dipshit, and dragging in a few bucks at the same time.

So patriotic, it was shot in Canada to reap Canadian film board benefits.

ughghghgh.

surely someone else has been subjected to this film and has some bile to spew?

its worth close inspection... the slimy hands of Kondracke/Barnes/Krauthammer combed through it, Rove probably has trouble breathing while watching it.

Bush PRAYS repeatedly!

Cheney HUGS him!

Ashcroft squeaks about not having trials or something, Rumsfeld hisses: "That's different!" - they discuss torture, Rummy and Cheney nod approvingly.

Ari and Rove try to dispel the notion that Cheney runs the show... the fact that this has to be addressed in such a stirring tribute to W makes me squint.

The PA shootdown order. Mighty suspicious even when dramatized.

All this and Sulu, too. "Captain, some conservatives appear to be clinging to the shuttlecraft... there is a Cheney on the wing of the plane." - polish your George Takei impersonation and peruse Showtime at odd hours for what's bound to be the PLAN 9 of the Bush Administration.

I've been slicing and dicing graphics and video from this monstrosity to punctuate "the paranoia show", and will obnoxiously add debris from that little misguided project to this thread.

1. Couldn't take 30 minutes
of it. My son and I were laughing so hard. Especially the scene with Rummy running into the fire and later running next to a gurney holding an IV bottle. My son said at the time that it should be rated R for Massive Disinformation.

3. yes, that was a priceless scene
he was looking for those "not quite dead" to sink his fangs into, no doubt. Hilarious seeing him in that light.

I loved how they even worked in a trademark "My Goodness!"

sure to be a catchphrase that will haunt his future late-night FOX talk show.

"My goodness, it would be unhelpful if you do or do not in some sense or case watch my program this evening...!"

5. OMG did they really?
Did they also use his favorite word "tidy"? Somehow everytime he would use that word I would picture him in an apron with a doo rag and a duster like my Grandmother used to wear. I don't listen to him anymore, I got rather bothered by the creepy feelings of spiders crawling up my spine when I listened.

6. its a known unknown at this point, but it could be known.

Edited on Sun Sep-21-03 04:29 PM by thebigidea
this is such a bizarre footnote to the whole WAR ON WARMED OVER TERROR - the fact that the sitcom turns into some supposedly soberfaced drama/indoctrination film... with the same actor!

phew...

think of the great collages you could make interspersing DC 9/11 footage with "That's My Bush" bits.

(cracks knuckles, fires up the machines)

7. I (pervetedly) am desperate to see this in the UK
because the idea I've built up of the film is that it pushes the image of Bush so far into the ultra-patriotic ubermensch mould that it comes out the other side as the campest thing ever.

My ultimate fantasy would be for it to take on a kind of "Rocky Horror Picture Show" cult status complete with audience participation!

If anyone knows of an (ahem!) online version to download, please let me know!

(btw -- I love your work, though it does scare the pants off me!!)

8. this was my hope too, and though I was cautious at first...
it is proving to be a very MST3K-like event that I'm shoving down the throat of friends. When the cries of pain die down, it really gets people ranting at the tv.

I can see the internet drinking game rules being distributed (and ignored) already.

thanks for the compliment!

Figure 32535345436. "That's My Bush!"

say, here's an idea: add a 70s sitcom-style laughtrack to "DC 9/11" - awwwwwwwwwws when Bush "comforts" Laura, warm greetings when grizzled Rummys, Cheneys, or Wolfowitzi enter the room...

hey Parker and Stone! Surely you have an opinion on this?
