Democrats seek guru to set course - Detroit Free Press
i haven't read the other books, but i soon will...the lakoff book is amazing and has helped me win by now countless arguments with some republican friends and co-workers as well as other random debates with strangers, i have been able to sow the seeds of doubt in more than a few minds about the true rethug agenda and to introduce new frames for what WE value and believe in...it def works.

comments on the other books are very welcome...

WASHINGTON -- The Republicans have a guru -- Karl Rove, who has guided George W. Bush since his days as Texas governor, and now charts the GOP's fortunes. So it's no wonder that the Democrats seek one of their own, a font of wisdom who can divine what is wrong and point the way forward...

Right now, the nominees for Democratic guru include:

•George Lakoff, a linguist at the University of California, Berkeley, and best-selling author of "Don't Think of an Elephant!" who says Democrats can outfight the GOP on so-called values by reframing the debate with better language.

•Thomas Frank, commentator and author of a hot book, "What's the Matter with Kansas?" who says Democrats can trump Republicans on values by changing the subject and bashing the GOP's corporate pals.

•Jim Wallis, an evangelical Christian preacher and author of a hot book, "God's Politics," who says Democrats can beat the GOP on values by linking Democratic principles to Bible passages, and by moving the party rightward on abortion.

All three were feted like rock stars last week, at a meeting sponsored by a prominent liberal group called Campaign for America's Future. And it's not just grass-roots activists who are juiced.

Top Democratic politicians have been seeking their wisdom.

Party Chairman Howard Dean, in recent public remarks, said that Lakoff "will be one of the most influential political thinkers of the progressive movement when the history of this century is written."

6. I Saw Lakoff On Washington Journal
I was very impresesed with his presentation. He has the saavy of a Luntz without the smarmy. I've ordered the book and want to find out more about his strategies. In essence, it's doing something Democrats seem loath to do...have backbones and out talk and out work Repugnicans.

7. Oh man. Here we go again.
Yea, let's see if we can win the game on their terms. Let's see if we can defend our true morality by coming up with our own conniving, manipulating, law-breaking background weasel.

How about using such sophisticated tactics as applying truth, common sense and honesty to achieve our goal?

We don't need a democratic Karl Rove, we need a democratic candidate that has not yet pawned his soul to corporate interests.

8. An example of this
'Department of Peace.'

Great idea, DOA because of the title.

Try:

'Department of Democracy'

But with EXACTLY the same policy ideas and initiatives.

Strategy is good. Winning is good.
