Dean Campaign Update - from Joe Trippi
Add One More Week to 6 Amazing Months
http://blog.deanforamerica.com/
In 6 months we have gone from 7 staff people and $157,000 in the bank and an asterik in the polls -- to raising the most money of any candidate in any quarter this year, and just yesterday learned that the new Newsweek Poll has us vaulting up into a tie for the lead nationally with three candidates who have had all the advantage of superior name ID, resources, and the establishment chorus that declared them early on as "first tier" candidates. While we have grown -- their support has either stayed static or in most cases declined.

So we have maintained the focus that got us here. Building the great grassroots campaign of the modern era "built from mouse pads, shoe leather and hope." Today Dean Meetup Members will cross 61,000 strong. Over 40,000 have signed our petition to call for the resignations of those who misled our nation and the world about the reasons for the Iraq War. And we are now nearing 200,000 supporters nationwide -- towards our year end goal of 1 million. It has been yet another amazing week in the most moving and amazing 6 months that I have ever been involved in a political campaign.

Chris Matthews said something worth noting today -- "The only reason to be in politics is to be out there all alone and be proven right" "He's singled out himself as a broad alternative to the republican in the White House, on Iraq, on the growing deficits....To be out there all alone and proven right. Howard Dean is out there all alone. The only question, and its a big one, is whether he'll be proven right. What this country needs is a smart, sharp, and illuminating debate. Howard Dean has stepped up. Now its time for the other Democrats to."

But Howard Dean has not been out there all alone -- you and a growing number of Americans have stood with him and continue to organize and spread the word to others who are joining our cause everyday.

In the last line of his Newsweek introspective on Howard Dean today-- Howard Fineman wrote "Not knowing everything is a form of powerlessness Howard Dean cannot stand" Its a statement that is true of many Americans -- as they look at the current administration and what is happening to our country -- who feel powerless to change Washington, and return to a politics of meaning and common purpose again.

The thing that makes this campaign so amazing -- is how many thousands of Americans have throw cynicism aside, and their sense of powerlessness to change Washington -- and are now the engine of People Powered Howard. What we all are proving everyday is that the small and individual acts of thousands of people working in common purpose -- is a powerfull force -- a force so strong that in the span of 9 days in June it changed the structure of the race for the Democratic Party's nomination. And a force that if we keep building it, will defeat George Bush in November of 2004 and reclaim and restore our nation's destiny and purpose.

To far too many today that may sound impossible -- But Howard Dean stands out there everyday -- reminding every American that they have the power to make it so.

Thank you all for making this one more week in an amazing 6 months.
Keep spreading the word -- keep working to ask others to join our cause.

Lets make this quarter the quarter that really shakes things up.

Joe Trippi

Interesting touch -- notice how he signed "campaign manager" in lower case.

2. I've seen him write the "campaign manager" in lower case before.
It must be his trademark. He's doing such an outstanding job!

3. attn.: Eloriel - article you want to read

It's from today's Guardian, and since it isn't even today yet over here, you know it's fresh!

brief excerpt follows:

But it is soon clear that Dean is visibly, viscerally angry and it just so happens that right now, anger is what the true party faithful are looking for in their presidential candidate in the 2004 elections.

The Democratic rank and file are furious that the country was taken to war on false pretences, and they are outraged at the Bush tax cuts, which are in effect a transfer of staggering proportions from the nation's savings account to the nation's millionaires.
