Unless Dems are breaking the law, I shouldn't be hearing SHIT except |
|
Edited on Tue Jun-07-05 07:03 PM by Bouncy Ball
all the law-breaking the party currently in control is doing: namely THE REPUKES.
ANY story about Dem disagreement or Dem minor shit is DISTRACTION DISTRACTION DISTRACTION.
Don't. Fall. For it. Period. I haven't so much as looked at DU in two or three days (just started a very demanding summer class, ug) and I was forced to hear CNN the other day (airport, no headphones, no escape) and I heard about this Dean Edwards thing. I IMMEDIATELY thought his words were taken out of context and the thing was blown out of proportion.
I WAS RIGHT! And what's this about GPA? LITTLE PIDDLY SHIT. And I don't care about Richardson and Dean. LITTLE PIDDLY SHIT.
Guys, imagine if EVERY LITTLE thing a high-ranking repuke said was reported. BUT THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN. No, we get these little piddly stories about Dems, MEANT TO DEFLECT AND DETRACT FROM THE VERY REAL CRIMES BEING COMMITTED and HAVING BEEN COMMITTED BY THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION.
I'm not saying ignore it, but damn close. I'm saying that every one of us should be saying in response, loudly and clearly, "DISTRACTION ALERT! Now, on to those minutes....now ON TO THAT WAR....now on to..."
Get my drift? Don't let them do it. It's sneaky and underhanded. But all people have to do is make sure it doesn't work.
Oh and every minute the networks report on this minor shit is one minute they are NOT reporting on REAL CRIMES. And THAT, my friends, is a crime in and of itself. I'm not standing for it. I think things were getting a LEETLE too hot on the repukes and so we get this. Fuck that noise.

and this is a BIG but--Edward's comments were blown out of proportion (of course!) and why the hell are Richardson's comments even a STORY? With everything we have going on, THAT'S a story? It's a big yawner to me.
Seriously, just imagine the main stream media reporting on things like this from the repuke party. They WOULDN'T and DON'T. And they have stuff like this happen.
But hey when you're as in bed with the corporate media as much as repukes are, that's a nice fringe benefit, isn't it?

21. It's a yawner because he didn't say anything of substance. |
|
Neither he or Dean. If they want to make headlines let them say something like Amnesty International did.
Methinks even the corporate media would report Edward's, Dean's, or even bigmouth Biden's words, if they said something like:
The war and occupation is a fraud and we have to get out now.
or,
The media is owned and controlled by corporate interests.
or,
George W. Bush has repeatedly lied to the American People.
or,
Any number of other statements of truth without the weasle words they usually proffer.
If they really want to make headlines - they need to start saying something newsworthy that will drown out the crappola.

They aren't attacking each other. Certainly not anything worse than Republicans who disagree with one another have said amongst themselves in the past. The fact that Democratic disagreements get such major airtime and blown out of proportion and Republican disagreements aren't even mentioned plays into the propaganda that the Democrats are a disorganized backstabbing party while the Republicans are a unified front. Neither perspective is truthful.
We buy into this bullshit and they've won.

I don't watch/read Corporate Media anymore, but when I heard about this that was the very first thing to go through my mind. I would love to see the memo that came from the White House instructing the "liberal" media to jump on these ridiculous non-stories.
It's criminally complicit in my opinion.

|
pound them, pound them, pound them, NEVER LET UP. Write letters to the editor, nail every single point in every political conversation you have, if you aren't already involved with your county Dem party, google them, call them, volunteer, help, give a donation to them and/or the DNC.
THAT'S concrete.

i agree we waste way too much time talking about "Dem disagreement or Dem minor shit" ...
but i disagree with this statement: "Unless Dems are breaking the law, I shouldn't be hearing SHIT except all the law-breaking the party currently in control is doing: namely THE REPUKES."
there is no end to my disgust with the Senate Dems' support for bush's occupation of Iraq ... when Dems totally support what bush is doing in Iraq, and they have been, i think it's wrong to focus only on "THE REPUKES" ... if our guys are acting like REPUKES, it seems to me they are more than worthy of criticism ...
even Democrats shouldn't get a free pass when they support catastrophic policies ...

23. Agreed. Politicians of either stripe need to be held accountable. |
|
I expect the Republicans to vote, act, and speak like Republicans. I (perhaps naively) expect Democrats to vote, act, and speak like Democrats.
Unfortunately, most of them vote, act, and speak like politicians whose first loyalty is to their ambitions.

|
Edited on Tue Jun-07-05 08:07 PM by Bouncy Ball
And I don't believe I have to only work on one problem.
But I like to prioritize and right now it seems pretty obvious that the neocon agenda is running this country into the ground and fucking things up pretty good internationally, too, so my first priority is given to stopping that.
That doesn't mean I don't expect Dems to act like Dems: electing Dean as party chair is a DAMN fine start.
I look at it this way: let's deal with the very pressing, huge issue of the neocons, then let's deal with shaping up our own party. Had Kerry been elected, I was fully planning on holding some feet to the fire. But now I still have these evil shits to deal with AND their complicit media. If something isn't done about the neocons and the media, I fear there won't be much of an opposition party left to BE an opposition party, know what I mean?

30. i couldn't disagree more ... |

you stated: "let's deal with the very pressing, huge issue of the neocons, then let's deal with shaping up our own party."
i see this as a very dangerous and also tragic point of view ... i understand that you believe that we can't afford to be distracted and we have to focus like a laser on getting rid of bush ...
i, agree with your objective completely but i strongly disagree with your strategy for two reasons ...
first, even focussing narrowly on the politics, i believe the best policy makes the best politics ... i'm afraid that Senate Dems and the Party elite have buried their heads in the sand when it comes to demonstrating leadership on foreign policy ... be honest with yourself ... do you think you could clearly articulate where Democrats stand on foreign policy? and even if you could, i don't think this is the case with the American people ... as long as bush is able to sustain his eternal global war, Americans will vote for republicans unless Democrats show some real leadership and offer a compelling alternative ... going along with bush is not leadership of any kind ... so, point one is that good policies make good politics and the Senate Dems are not supporting good policies in Iraq ...
and second, people are dying ... i just don't see how you can just look the other way and condone what the Senate Dems are doing ... while they "go along" with bush's occupation, our troops are dying, Iraqis are dying and the US credibility in the world is being badly battered ... Senate Dems are supporting pure evil presumably for perceived political gains ... i can't see waiting until Dems regain control (which might not happen in either 2006 or 2008) to speak out against the insanity in Iraq ... people are dying everyday over there and it's time for enlightened Dems to show some real leadership and guide the country out of the madness ...

We know that, but the right-wingers don't want the general public to know that.
Just like the whole FMA thing was designed to throw everybodys' attention off of Chimpy's Iraq war fiasco for as long as possible, and it did. And he begins term #2 with the Social Security disaster so he can keep up his Iraq disaster (remember how we were supposed to be out of there by January 30th?) for as long as he wants to....
Everything the repukes do is designed to hide their blood trail.
