Dean hit the nail on the head
on the way to get into the main stream media. Say or do something outrageous and it will get played over and over again in a negative way, but it will get played by the mainstream media.

Take note Democratic candidates, incumbents or wannabe's, say something that will prick the neo-cons in the ass and they will pay attention. Some Hollywood wag said all publicity, no matter how bad, is good publicity as long as they spelled his name right. Well, I'm paraphrasing that, but you get the idea.

So what can we do to get our issues in front of the nation?

Call it as you see it, no matter how blunt and how rude it seems. Charlie Rangel is getting more into this mode of telling it like it is. Today he compared the torture of prisoners to the holocaust. Of course right away, the right objected to comparing six million deaths to our numbers and they made sure a Jewish spokesman said it all over the MSM.

Get it? I didn't see any liberal Jew up there saying that one torture or death from torture was as bad as six million Jews killed in the holocaust. All torture and death from torture is wrong. No they had a negative spin on it, but it was out there and it was bringing torture up as "like the holocaust in essence" and that should start making Americans think that it's wrong.

Okay Democratic candidates, wannabe candidates and incumbents, say something outrageous in the next twenty four hours. No more milquetoasts on the defensive all the time. It's the offensive player who wins most of the time, so be offensive and rude and anything else that bites them in the ass and get's their attention.

So, I say let's be outrageous. Let's start doing the things (no violence, nudity or sex please) that will get us noticed by the MSM, no matter how negative the coverage, as long as it is covered. Let's start with election reform and health care reform.

1. Does Howard Dean speak for the Democratic Party?
Apparently not the ones who go on talk shows and get badgered about it, but for the masses of working class voters who are sick of stolen elections, forfeited freedom, and economic dispair, his voice is a choir that could use a bit of volume.

It's about time.

2. Speaking of talk shows this is our opportunity to put
them on notice. Although most of the talk show guests are meek and polite, they will invite a guest on who has gotten a lot of negative publicity. This is their opportunity to do a Jon Stewart and not let them leave tire treads all over their faces.

Jon will never get invited back on CNN (except on Larry King; they're friends)but his appearance was talked about for weeks afterwards on the blogs and other internet venues. They are afraid of the internet, but we still need to reach the people who are fed pablum on a daily basis from the MSM.

3. Elections should be a starting salvo for this outrageous
behavior stance. Who will stand up and say that our primary system sucks, that our whole antiquated electoral system sucks and needs to be scrapped and a new modern democratic method of elections needs be added to the Bill of Rights. If we are going to have an ammendment to change how elections are done, screw changing the Constitution to accommodate Arnold. We need to change the whole way elections are done.

Now any Senator or Congressperson saying this will turn the Republican establishment and the DLC on end. What? Change the Constitution and the intent of the founding fathers? I can hear the patriotic gunfire from both sides, but it will be covered in the MSM. It's especially important to criticize Arnold, their pet duck. Oh the feathers flying.

4. An aside on Rangel comment
he's far more correct that anyone's giving him credit for. Just how many millions of Iraqis will die as a direct result of Bush's use of DEPLETED URANIUM in Iraq___Many ,many MILLIONS___so Holocaust is the correct word here. On Dean, the democrats haven't gotten this much press since Kerry let bush steal the 2004 selection!!!!!

15. I'm with you there, Patty Diana
and Welcome to DU! :toast:

I swear, Amis are looking crazier by the day from this side of the pond!
Let me make sure I have this straight. The republican party demographic is 82% white and Christian. They've been beating their chests since your "election" that THEIR values shall now be enshrined as the law of the land. There is not a single black republican in Congress. So Dean says, they're pretty much white and Christian, and a MEDIA FRENZY breaks out. Heh? REALLY, y'all be looking quite psycho...

5. It worked in his political campaign...
He went from a nobody to frontrunner because he wasn't afraid to be blunt with the truth while everyone else was dancing around it in pink-tutu's.

8. We should have stuck with Dean, despite what they did
to him over the scream. At the time I didn't think so, but I was wrong. They said Gore was a bore and Dean was a loose cannon. You can't win with these people so we should just stop trying. They'll try to twist things regardless so it's better to have an outspoken leader than someone who just rolls over (like Kerry to the Swiftboat liars). I supported Kerry wholeheartedly, but he should have fought back harder on that one. No more submissive Dems!

9. We have to fix the primary election system.
Dean lost the nominaton because a few states, who were marketed to for narrow issues, believed Kerry was their guy.

We need to hold primaries, for federal candidates anyway, on the same day with the results held back until the last precinct closes in Hawaii. I hope somebody circulates a petition and that everyone writes their Congressperson and Senators to think about changing this.

10. Saying the UK memo shows that Bush "lied" would be "outrageous"....
...and would not single out a race or religion.

And it would put BUSH rather than DEMs on the defensive.

But Dean has yet to even utter a sentence about that.

If Dean wants controversy, then he should stop ignoring the UK memo.

12. I would rather one of our Senators did that like Kerry was
supposed to and then didn't. I guess it will have to be Barbara Boxer that will have the courage to do this, all 5'2" of her.

13. I would rather Dean & Kerry do it TOGETHER in a joint appearance...
...with Conyers, Hillary, Reid, Obama, Kennedy, and every other recognizable DEM standing shoulder to shoulder.

Would of been a hell of lot better than talking about the race & religion of certain voters.

It's good that we know bout it, but there wouldn't be much point talking about Downing Street if it's not accompanied by an impeachment.

Whatever they have to say, they need to keep repeating it, until people have heard it so many times it's burned into the public's brains. That's what repugs do, anyway.

16. Then what good is it talking about ANY issue?
Edited on Thu Jun-09-05 05:47 PM by Dr Fate
I dont want to impeach Bush, I want to use this issue to destroy GOP moral, political & "strong on defense" capital for '06 & '08.

I disagree- I think telling the truth about Bush ALWAYS does some good.

Impeaching Bush would be great, but I'll settle for permanently wiping that smirk off Dubya's face.
