There is enough information already in the public domain to permanently discredit Bush and his accomplices in the Republican Party. What we need are reporters with the energy to pull it together and editors/publishers who understand their duties in a democracy and have the courage to fulfill their civic obligation to contribute to the maintenance of an informed electorate.
The reason Woodward and Bernstein were able to lead on this story was that the White House press corps at that time was so mesmerized by Nixon's triumphs, they shied away from danger and were intimidated into silence until it was impossible to ignore the stench coming from the rot that was the Nixon administration.
It is a tragic for our republic to compare the Washington Post, New York Times and Los Angeles Times of those days to the lap dogs they are today.

1. Absolutely right
We need Katharine Graham, not her lardass son who's so busy licking Bush's boots and making nice fat donations to the Chimperor's Inaugural Ball, he doesn't seem to realize that his mother's wonderful paper no longer exists.

They keep carrying Bob Novak, though.

3. You're right. When you see Downie, the editor, it is obvious
that he is no newspaperman , just another corporate suit whose only concern is profit and loss. The irony, of course, is that under his kiss-up stewardship, the paper's circulation is in decline. They are not good news people and they are not good businesspeople either.

2. Good point.
It takes courageous reporters, civic-minded editors AND government whistle-blowers to crack this story.

And they better be prepared for the shitstorm that will follow.
