bush 43% approval: AAR to blame?
Edited on Fri Jun-10-05 11:33 AM by oscar111
can AAR air america radio... take credit for finally getting some radio traction, and moving us to more pregressive ideas?

I would like to think so.

Discuss, please.

PS retirement ideas for a worn out Limbaugh? Where would be best? What standard of living?

5. I'm so excited to be getting it on FM soon...
Moving to Madison from Phoenix. Power lines near my house drown out the AM signal here. Only two weeks... :)

16. Lucky. Interesting fact. Talk radio will be moving to FM.
Music stations are dying on FM, so talk radio will be slowly migrating from AM. It's already happening.

Why are music stations dying?

XM and Sirius for one.

But mostly because of the iPod.

4. Which poll has * at 43 percent approval?
I missed that one. I'm not being antagonistic, I really missed that poll.

I think it's more the SS debacle and the Iraq war. I also think the activism of blogs, AAR, and moveon is waking folks up.

6. I have to think it is partly responsible
Edited on Fri Jun-10-05 11:38 AM by SiouxJ
for years they've had a monopoly on the radio and now the other side of the story is getting out. True, the hard-core base will never let it influence them as they are too brainwashed (but they DO listen and call in), but I'm sure moderates who listen to Rightwing radio are now also listening to AAR and the like and it is having an impact. I hear it in the tone of the callers every day ("I voted for Bush but now I regret it" sort of thing).

7. I don't think Air America can take sole credit here...
Certainly not Danny "I'm inspired by Rush Limbaugh" Goldberg, who's been pushing Jerry Springer instead of a lot of better programming on the affiliate stations because Springer was his "baby" deal after taking over, and then launching the exorcising of Sirius listeners deal with XM.

I think many blogs, including this one, can claim just as much credit for helping get the word out on things like the Downing Street Memos, Jeff Gannon, and many other things that the MSM has been ignoring. And the Rethugs have been shooting themselves in the foot with the likes of Tom Delay and Terry Schiavo too.

Too bad the Dems can't step it up more and more of them declare independence from their DLC/corporate keepers to really start speaking to their "people" constituency. They might be able to take more advantage of Bush's drop.

15. You conveniently leave out the excellent liberal voices of Randi, Malloy,
Edited on Fri Jun-10-05 11:52 AM by LaPera
Janeane & Sam...

All I think we are saying... AAR is a national voice and is undeniably putting a crimp in Rove's style and plans of complete media control and news blackouts of stories that BushCo doesn't want told.

And by making AAR stronger it could only get better for progressive voices!

Wouldn't you agree?

24. And unfortunately Goldberg is leaving out Malloy and Randi's voices too!
Edited on Fri Jun-10-05 12:06 PM by calipendence
With his idiotic "exclusive" and "official" arrangement with XM that is kicking off both Sirius listeners and Malloy and Randi Rhodes out of their live time slots in favor of Alan Colmes and Ed Schultz.

Don't get me wrong, I *love* a lot of the talent of AAR. But I am pretty bitter about what this new yahoo, Danny Goldberg, who's taken it over, and looks like he's helping with an underground effort towards paving a way for Clear Channel to take over satellite radio with these stupid deals. I think Steve Miller probably has a song for him "Take the Money and Run!"

I'd like to see Air America get stronger. But I'd first like to see them dump Goldberg and kill this deal with XM somehow. That's going to kill them in the long run.

Air America's "pushing" of Jerry Springer has even affected our local affilliate here in San Diego. I sent a letter asking why they were bumping Mike Malloy to only carry his last hour live here and putting a repeat of two hours of Jerry Springer on between 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM. I guess they didn't want to bump their own local guy to carry Springer live in the morning.

His answer to me was "but we want to give Springer on the Radio a chance to see how it does....it does bring us a lot of curious listeners to check us out", even though he said he wanted to "expand" Malloy. I'm sorry, but expanding Malloy like XM has done it by putting him on replay into the wee hours of the morning doesn't work for me. How about giving Malloy a chance to see how he does in his LIVE spot when people can actually call in to the show!

8. AAR can take part of the credit...
But he would be tanking now even without them.

First, there is a lot more Liberal/Progressive radio than AAR.

Second, the Internet (you're soaking in it.)

Third, everybody by now knows somebody who has suffered a loss over in that war or who has had economic hard times due to Bush's mismanagement of the country.

Not as a guest, silly, but a crewman on the garbage boat picking trash up off of the yachts. He can bore his fellow crew mates with stories about how he used to be a jet setter, owned a yacht and once had a home in Palm Beach. Every now and then they throw him a pill to shut him up.

19. how to help AAR
Edited on Fri Jun-10-05 11:57 AM by oscar111
include it in your will

buy tiny one line ads in your local alternat. weekly papers

fliers everywhere

set up a yahoo group ..free.. for supporters in your town to discuss getting it in your town next

urge AFLCIO and DNC to subsidize AAR, even tho AAR is a company, "grants" can help it just like grants help NPR, PBS.

visit the forums especially for AAR. Several exist, .. avoid the ome i saw year ago, which actually has known freepers as mods because the owner "likes to see clashes of ideas"
Freepers wasted my time there with frivolous disagreements.

AFLCIO , DNC will vanish without a voice. AAR is the long-sought voice. AFLCIO and DNC should have set up an AAR clone in 192O. Would have avoided
Hoover,
Great Depression,
Vietnam,
Nixon,
reagan,
bush 1 and
bush 2,
Iraq war.

President Kucinich would today be appointing M Moore to the Supreme Court.

23. Billboards! Freakin' Billboards!
I have been a one-man promoter of the concept of progressive talk radio for about 20 years now. I told myself years ago that I would know that Prog Radio had truly been established when I saw 2 things:

1) A Prog Radio station on-air in my area ON AM RADIO. Right where it is available in people's cars.

2) Billboards for that station along the hiway!

Here in Mpls,/St.Paul we now have both!

Best of all, the first Billboard for AARMinnesota went up right over a big, nasty BB for our local neo-con AM broadcaster!

Whoopee!:toast:

Billboards are needed. I, too, have been screaming for billboards. It is astonishing to me how many DEMS I know, that don't know about our local progressive station.
What the HELL are they waiting for?
