Alright, the ACLU is pissing me off |
|
I've been trying for a week now to become a "Guardian of Liberty" (give monthly donations via credit card).
Not only do they NOT return my calls, but there is no way to sign up online.
WTF? Is the money not green, people? How much have they lost by making donating such a pain in the ass??

... well-fed, pretty big corporations taking care of your basic needs, maybe the little guy's money isn't quite so important....

4. Now I know these kinds of responses are pull-string. |
|
Uh, he was talking about the ACLU?

... have a look at their site, and at their Form 990s. You'll see they are heavily endowed by a number of corporations and foundations tied to corporations.
I looked at it a while back when I got a completely unsatisfactory answer from the ACLU about their repeated defense of corporate rights to personhood, especially with regard to corporate rights to free speech.

They are not really a left-wing organization. I wouldn't expect them to be.

8. It's not anything I expect... |

... or don't, but I'm still disappointed by an organization which bills itself as a defender of individual and human rights putting lots of time and money into protecting (in the legal definition) artificial persons.
My earlier post was simply to offer a reason to the original poster for why the ACLU may not be desperate for individual contributions. Getting money from corporate sources certainly might explain that.

9. Guess I don't have to feel guilty |
|
about not renewing my membership, which lapsed years ago. But I still get reminders every week.

This page also works for New Members.
Thanks for the reminder!
OK--I noticed you wanted to give monthly donations. If you're already a member, wouldn't you get pleas for that kind of donation?
It's NOT impossible to donate.
Checked again--The Guardians of Liberty page allows you to send an e-mail. Have you tried that?

I've sent an email too--no response.
It bugs me because I'm a web designer and I've set up "pay monthly" plans for orgs. Nothing complicated. IMO a group of their stature is losing donations in the five figures/yr by not offering this option.
