Caution - Windows email virus riding in Jackson "suicide attempt" spam

As a fond Mac owner, I don't have to worry about this one, but I thought I'd pass the news along.

Jackson suicide spam hides virus

A Windows e-mail virus is trying to ensnare victims by claiming that Michael Jackson has attempted suicide, say computer security firms.

The message hopes to catch people's attention because of the huge interest in the on-going child abuse trial.

The fake message contains a web link that supposedly links to Mr Jackson's suicide note.

But anyone clicking on the link will have their PC invaded by a virus that gives others access to that machine.

1. You have to wonder who such a rumor benefits? I mean - and on

a day when people are signing a petition online.

I'm just saying....

Would not surprise if the author of such a thing is not only a criminal but a neocon sympathizer too.

After all, aren't most of us Dems too smart to fall for a stupid MJ virus-laden email? BTW, last I checked, Conyers' signatures were at 90% (452,413)!!!

4. i noticed that spam while i was cleaning out

the spamfilters yesterday.


at first i thought maybe i should send it on, until i read cloeser and realized they had purposefully mis-spelled "dead" and "suicide" in order to evade word filters.

9. I agree - I would never open an email with that title and sender. But

there are DUers with teenagers who might do it unless they were warned. I don't want DUers' computers to be compromised.
