‘Minutemen’ gear up for mainstream movement
WASHINGTON - Volunteers in the civilian-led border watch group known as the “Minuteman Project” are called vigilantes, or worse, by their critics -- patriots or heroes by their supporters. Regardless of the moniker, the Minutemen have driven the issue of illegal immigration from the margins of America’s conscience onto the national stage.

“Realistically, we’re looking at 10,000-plus volunteers being deployed Oct. 1st on the southern and northern borders,” said Chris Simcox, a chief organizer for the Arizona Minuteman Project and founder of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, Inc.

2. Bush has no control and possibly no authority over
the most dangerous terrorists among us. The right wing wackos carry on with impunity while the rest of us bend over to get on a plane.

3. Funny, where's Gilchrist?
Did he decide not to associate with a known racist such as Simcox?

This movement is all to reminiscent of the Patriot movement back during Bush the father's term.

7. Precisely what the neocons want.
They have been egging us on for 5 years in almost every quarter imaginable. They are DARING us to make a move. Then...the hammer will come down so fast that we'll be in a lockdown to rival Stalinist USSR or (dare I say it?): Nazi Germany.

6. Capitalists did this
The same ones who are profiting off the sweat and labor of these desperate people are also financing the campaigns of candidates running for office in Congress. This is why Congress won't do anything at all.

The folks who run multinational corporate conglomerate giants are the same ones who uprooted these people. What you're seeing in Bolivia today is the result of corporatism run afoul. It's the latest example. Others include El Salvador and Nicaragua. Those desperate people then have to look elsewhere for opportunities because their country was driven into the ground, and guess where they're going to go? Here in the US.

They force US workers to compete with these people who jump the border, and we both lose, while the greedy bastards win over all.

13. I know how to stop them cold.
If the left mobilizes against them and mobilizes armed Latinos and others to confront the racists militantly and to patrol for violence against people of color, then the elite will see "chaos" and that will be the end of it. They will allow no armed groups on the border.

This is my first post regarding the Minutemen.

Sorry to disagree with the crowd but I admire their commitment. While I don't necessary agree with with cause, I salute their effort to actually take action against something they feel passionate about.

When was the last time you saw 10,000 Democrats unite across a state to demand heathcare for all?

When was the last time you heard about 10,000 Democrats in front of an Army recruitment office protesting the illegal war in Iraq?

Please, tell me when, if ever, you heard about an effort organized by the Democrat Party to feed the hungry and poor, just for one day!

I do what I can as an individual, I volunteer to causes I feel are important about 40 hours a month, year in and year out, but my party let's down when it comes to actually helping others. I think their too busy calling Republicans names.

In closing, I don't like the Minuteman's cause, but I admire their passion.

Peace,

-Fergus
